Redneck is a stereotyping label on people who r usually low educated, live in mobile homes, love the Dayonta 500 car races, fishing, drink beer, have missing teeth, wear certain kinds of clothing. The women tend to look a lot older than they look.
It is a very offensive term for people who prefer to live simple lives and don't have a lot of money. I agree with Kalista...it is like calling black people the "N" word.
From my understanding there seems to be no positive characteristics related to that term.
