Did billing statement said that you are on 60 mbps plan? Did you take speed test at 3 am? Call Spectrum?

The apartments tend to have congested CMTS and not spread equally as many people are using internet at same time, even more people start to downloading overnight as well, also condos have same issue.

If Spectrum didn't upgrade so it could be false advertising and call them if there is error.

Comcast is always congested in condo so I will never live in condo or apartment if I'm in Comcast territory.
It went up to 41.05 Mbps and 4.38 Mbps at 8:30 am. I didn't realize that internet can be congested at 3 am. Thank you for telling me that. I will check again later in the afternoon.

Don't hold your breath for 60 Mbps because cable in apartments and condos are congested in most places.

Huh. I've never had issues with speeds when living in apartments. I'll remember to check the next time I live in an apartment if I ever do.

It's possible to have issues within a neighborhood especially now that everybody and their brother has wifi. Most people are on the default channel of 11 or 5 I think it is. Internet traffic can also be bottlenecked badly in a residential neighborhood if everyone has the same ISP (I can think of at least one place where it's basically one company with a few really small local isps).

In the past, there weren't many people using internet until evolution of social networking, digital streaming and digital contents started after 2010 that lead to increasing of congestion in neighborhoods that CMTS is full and run at reduced speed to all subscribers, so cable companies have to upgrade and add more CMTS to support the demand.

DSL has same issue too - oversubscribing and telephone companies have to upgrade the DSLAM to add new equipments, however, most DSL in US are legacy and some telephone companies slapped with permanent exhaust, it means they cannot accept more subscribers, so you have 3 choice - cable, cell tower or satellite, so more telephone companies prefer to replace with fiber optic and kill the copper business.

The apartments are likely to be populated by young adults = more demand for internet and put big strain on CMTS. You have to call cable companies if your internet is slow and demand them to upgrade by replace with newer equipment.

I believe that SilverRoxy live alone and she isn't gamer, so it was her neighbors that used internet a lot.

@DeafDucky Most new routers have auto to change the WiFi channel automatically nowadays, also 2.4 GHz with 5 GHz routers are common too.

There is internet speed when I stayed at condo in Florida last year - they use Comcast and last one is my home internet.

I noticed a drop in your internet. That is not good. Download is not bad I think. The upload is too low. My mother has 0.3 Mbps download and 0.1 Mbps upload and Netflix works fine on her TV. @Foxrac Could you explain what this means?

Yep I know. I do all the router stuff for here. We got a new router as the one I had was too old. New one has both 2.4 and 5ghz... and I've fiddled with the channels often enough. Might look again to see what I left it at (I can't remember).

This is what I got. Is this good or bad?

that seems low. If you are rural or outside of the city that may be why, but the most basic is 10mpbs upload and 1 mpbs download. Might be a little traffic there.

This is mine-

Wow! Did you have to pay extra for this speed?

As far as I know, no. I need to peek at his account and see (I have access lol), but I know we were at something like 25/2, then it was upgraded to 50/5 for the same price last year. I don't know if this new change is still the same price but it happened right around the time TW got together with Charter and became Spectrum very recently. I was just as shocked when I did a speed test for ZVRS to try to figure out why the video is still sometimes 'choppy'.

10 Mbps is enough for 1080p streaming and 1 Mbps upload will take while to upload the video if it is HD quality.

This internet speed is normal for DSL in rural area, also definitely better than AT&T (6 Mbps). AT&T isn't going bother with all upgrades and they want to get out of copper business.

Charter want to standardize the internet speed to 60 Mbps and 100 Mbps for all subscribers.

Interesting, you, SilverRoxy and I live in Spectrum territory now.

Mine showed 110.31 download and 5.66 upload....*Adding that I now have Spectrum with 100 Mbps

I do live in the country. I'm miles away from the city.

I also live in a very small town in the country. Our internet speeds are extremely slow and immensely overpriced!

Oh wow!!! I joined AD in March 2005 and my ISP was Bright House - cable company, so I voted cable.

Now, I went back to cable again - under Charter/Spectrum.

I won't miss DSL so BYE BYE to telephone company.
