Im curious about buying a ha over the internet. After making the mold, what else does the audiologist do?

Measures to make sure the aid is properly "fitted" aka makes sure you can hear well and in certain fituations and that it is tailored to you. Also makes sure that the ha is not too loud or too low..addresses any questions you have, etc

and it must be done thru audi if your HA is broken or has some issue. Before - we used to deal directly with the companies but not anymore :mad2:

If you buy hearing aids online, you'll still have to go to an audiologist to get them programmed and you will have to pay for their services. Also, like Jiro said, if something is wrong with the hearing aids, you will have to go to an audiologist to get them sent for repairs. That you will pay for too. Although if you buy them through an audiologist, they do come with a warranty.

I don't know if they do come with a warranty if you buy them online.

So you're not really doing yourself a favour by buying them online instead.

I would never think of buying a hearing aid online. You will be paying more in the long run for the services of an audi. With your audi atleast the cost of the hearing aid, repairs, cleaning and adjusting are all included in the price you buy with the hearing aid. If you buy one online then youll probably have to pay for an audi to do everything else every time something is wrong or you have a problem.

I would rather save money.

Is it unreasonable for an intelligent person to think they could figure out how to set up the hearing aids themselves? Isnt it just setting up each freq. channel to the losses on the hearing test?

That would be saying you have the equipment to do so. Its not so easy as just turning a few knobs. Mine have to be hooked to his equipment and programmed through the software he has. Sure I could probably run all of the software but they are Audiologists for a reason, they understand it and have everything they need to do so, if it was so easy then they wouldnt have a job.

If you have $$$$ equipment, training, and computer software to do so, cool. Do please upload the youtube video so we can try to do it ourselves :)

but you rather save money, right? better do it thru audi

The audiogram is a guide at best. If you didn't already know that then I wouldn't try programming an on my own. Of course if you decide to do it anyway, you'll certainly save money and probably get what you paid for.
