So on Facebook there is a argument based on Raven Symone saying that she is not African-American she is American. I agree fully but as usual people were trying to turn around what she is saying that she is ashamed of being the color she is.

I'm mixed and I'm ok with that. I'm fair skin a light caramel color. I am American. My ancestors are Native American and from the islands on one side of my family and The other side is Native American French and Albanian. I am still American born and raised on American soil. This country is the melting pot to the fullest.

If I was to go to Africa I would not be excepted by any means. Same for Albania and France cause I was not born nor raised there I would be a foreigner to them because I am American.

I am a light skin person of color or I am a dark skin Caucasian person. Either was I am American. My dad has hazel green and blue eyes and my mom has brown eyes. My dad has really curly hair and my mom has curly silky hair. We are American.

I love all people no matter their race or ethnic background. I would marry any race since I just see different colors and they are all beautiful. From pale skin like Edward Collins to ebony skin like Wesley Snipes or Morris Chestnut. It's all wonderful to me.

I'm a Homo sapiens.

I am spiderman. I have known ever since I was a child that I was really spiderman.

Now, I just have to wait for the right surgical procedures before it can become a reality.

People can call themselves anything they want with all the stuff going on in the world why would anyone care what a person say they're ?

Right. I just don't get the labeling just be who you are. Over the phone I would come off as sounding Caucasian but when people see me in person and see I'm mixed I get the "oh" face like I'm less than. I have heard people say the darker your skin the lower your IQ is which is not true.

HUH? you're saying "just be who you are" but do not call yourself what you want to be called . People call themselves African American
to be their self , why should people stop calling themselves African American
b/c some people do not like it ? I call myself a Russian Jewish American b/c my father was born in Russia , this is my way of honoring my father heritage . My family came from Russia to make a better a life for themselves and no one is going to tell me I can't call myself Russian Jewish American .

My mom is Native American and has some Gullah Island in her blood. I dad is Native American French in and Albanian. But they were both born here in the US. With them both mainly Native American I am American I am fair skin but does not necessarily mean that I'm African-American. I get my skin color and tone from the Islanders side of me. But when a person sees me they automatically assume African-American but not knowing my background how would they know.

Mainly saying don't judge a book by its cover and don't let your eyes deceive you because they may look one way but without knowing their background you would never know what a person's race may be.

It's the labeling by OTHERS that she doesn't get. The only person who has the right to label themselves is.. themselves. Other people will instantly label people based on what they SEE before they even ask 'what's your background' and they may be wrong.

Unfortunately Raven Symone is a celebrity so people feel like it's their right to be all up in her business and telling her how she should act, feel, be, and what she should be referring to herself as. I am sure she is not ashamed of her heritage but she is referring to herself as to where SHE is from... American.

Nothing wrong with what anybody names themselves as. I'm an American. My heritage is Scottish, Irish, Welsh, German, British (and I'm sure there's others in there somewhere...) but that becomes a freaking mouthful if I were to say I am a S-I-W-G-B American...lol

I agree with that. When you are a celeb people just think they know enough about you to think they can have an opinion on their business. And I would mind if people ask me what I am before just assuming.

I agree with you. I am Native American but I get tired of using that Native American. I would rather be call Cree/Cherokee by my own traditions. Those are two different tribes. I am strong on Cree tradition than Cherokee tradition. Yeah, I would agree with Raven Symone who want to be call American, period. There is lots of melting pots weaving through our bloods so it is better to be call "American". If you happen to visit other countries like England or France or Middle West and were being ask by other people what nationality were you from. Raven would say "American" simply without a blink in her eyes. You don't have to say what country or what nationality you were from before living in North America. USA, we are all humans no matter what nationality we came from. My ancestors have been here for many centuries before any of you came here. I go for that as "American". :cool2:
