Hello, please can someone give me advice on webcams that are best for sign language users?

Marc

clarity is the key over everything. The webcam that shows the best video with less amount of bandwidth is your best bet. It all comes down to the drivers and software and unit you want to use. Is it compatible with other user that is different brand/model then yours? Will it suck up all your available upload/download bandwidth ? Can you do other things on computere while video chatting. what about the other end user? its needs to match or be better. does it us software or hardware to compress video? both? which is better? hardware most likely. Can the webcam show clarity with busy/colorful backgrounds to the other user?

A lot to think about right? well- for your first post, it should be since I have no idea WHY you are asking and who are you? a researcher or a end user?

Hello, yeah a lot to think about. Sorry for not introducing myself. I am a hearing student of sign language (almost level 2). 27 years old from UK and looking to perhaps meet some people to practice signing with over skype. I have no experience with webcams though and just wondered if anyone could tell me one to go for.

Oh, sorry. I don't speak BSL. I'm american as ASL user. but, welcome to AllDeaf.

Also, alot deafies use videophone is popular over webcam for better video quality.
