VRS Neutral Platform Becomes a Reality, It's too Late For YOU. What is it too late for us?

VRS Neutral Platform Becomes a Reality, It's too Late For YOU | The Silent Grapevine (TSG)

Convo, ZVRS, Purple, SVRS and other VRS providers – want to use Neutral Platform (NP) and they have to give up their own platform. They are meaning create technical setup which will work with a video codec that will become “standard” called VRS access technology reference platform. This is entirely software platform. I think that SVRS will make newer VP to create video codec "standard" and new software. Work to connecting it to other VP to make clear video and working with any incoming and outgoing videomail messages. Right?

Deaf people likely not going to get involved (With new platform).

From what I heard proposal company that FCC has considered. Its NSF (National Science Foundation). Do NSF know about Deaf needs? I don't think so!

This is exact what I was very concern all along, and my concern fell on Deaf/blind ears/eyes. Sad!

I worked for VRS company for almost 6 years and heard all kinds of complaints and compliments from Deaf and hearing. That is how I know what is really going on. I lost count how many I talked with in first 6 months. I already talked over a thousand Deaf/hearing in just first 6 months I think.

Now, yeah, it is somewhat too late. Not much I could do. If Deaf wants company to be running Deaf owned, should have complain and rock the boat long time ago, but they decided to stay in their bed and sleep. Sad? Oh well...

Here a video discussing about Neutral platform ..

Video Relay Service (VRS) Reform Panel Discussion on Vimeo

I haven't watch it all yet but seem like a good discussion.

Neutral platform is not what Deaf Culture want. We want to see competition between VRS companies trying to offer best VP.

We don't want to be stuck with same Government controlled hardware and service that will never improve or complete with other because there will be no companies offering better products over the years like those hearing people smartphone,

Where is our equal right?????? If hearing people can choose and pick hardware from cell phone company then we Deaf should be able to do the same equally!!

I don't need government wiping my butt and spoon feeding me to make decision on what is best for me.

That's a good explanation video, but is he correct about "platform"? I thought "platform" meant a new VP that all companies must use, but the video above says "platform" means standards like 802.11 G. Which is it?

I'm thinking he means more of a "base" that the VRS companies can build around.

sort of like a basic software package that people can purchase and build onto that to customize to whatever their needs are. I know of one geo company that uses MS Access as a base for their own products to sell to geology, oil companies, wells etc.

Platform is pretty much like universal language that everybody uses.

I have mixed feelings about this idea, and not sure where or who FCC could find investors willing to invest something that they would think not getting big return (Profit). Nobody wants do business without profit.

That idea is very similar with telephone, earlier than 1930, there were several telephone companies, and there were too many different kinds of telephone system and some of these brands can't call other brands due to different codec (Just like Platform).

I don't want to end up with lousy platform where in future the Internet system MIGHT change and end up not compatible with the standardize platform, and how long will the government take to make the changes? Government is known to go at snail pace when it comes to changes.

For me, crystal clear video quality is a MUST! The rest, I don't care, hence why I keep Sorenson for that same reason, stand alone VP with hard written port forwarding and lock it in. That is how to keep video at maximum quality. The idea of using Softphone Platform may be bad idea when it comes to video quality. I don't want go down to deep technical details but those technical path does slow down a bit, the only way to be noticeable is though real time video, the rest like webpage, music, archived video (Netflix, something like that) won't be noticeable. That kind of system, I was hoping would never happen. Just that too many engineers that are hearing and don't really look at video as top priority… but audio to them is much more important.

So I don't know where it will head to. We will find out after June 2016.

Video codec is different between nTouch VP and other VP like SmartVP and other VP. Video quality was poor and choppy. Must match crystal clear video quality for all of VRS providers s VP and must be prefect video codec!!!

I think he is basically talking about interoperability which is mandatory and then the individual companies are free to invent, create, etc their own features unique onto themselves.....to be a recognized brand....
