I'm super excited.....I got an acceptance letter today that I qualify to do the ten week volunteer academy for my local police department. No I'm not going to be a cop:giggle: Even though I would be great at it "license, registration and insurance please" "get on the ground, get on the ground"::laugh2

I think with my background in Pharmacology, I might be able to help out with the DARE program. It would be so cool to help with the K9's too. I wish I could do dispatch but since I can't hear that would not work out too well. You are only required to work 4 hours per week and they want a 3 year commitment. Even though I am disabled I think I can totally handle 4 hours a week.

First meeting is in March but the academy does not start until August which is kind of a bummer.

You go, girl!....and if I ever get arrested in California...you'll be the 1st person I contact!.....:giggle:

RR Nope you come here and we will get in trouble together. I think we would do an awful lot of laughing:laugh2:

Congratulations! What an amazing opportunity to make a positive difference! Wishing you all the best!

That's awesome News! I know several people who do the same thing and they love it and have lots of fun doing it. Congrats! :)

By the way, I sincerely wish you all the best with your participation. Even if you act like a jerk and are mean to me.

That's awesome, so great! We definitely need people out there helping push the DARE program out there, too many kids into drugs these days. :( Definitely a good way to pass some time and make a difference! :D

I do quite a bit of volunteering at the local animal shelters around here. Of course, I love animals more than I love most people... :ugh: :laugh2:

I hope you have a good time with this, sounds fun! :D

:DAngel, I'm happy for you! I will be interested to know more about what you do and what you think of it - congrats!

I've volunteered at animal shelters for years, as a dog walker and trainer; also volunteered with Red Cross and with Very Special Arts and other places, I find it very rewarding!

Bring Anita so Marley can have some fun too.

If Marley is "rich and handsome"........feel sure she break her dates in her little black book and go meet up with Marley!....Even wear her red dress that says..."Heartbreaker"....

Sorry RR, Marley is a girl. They will just be two little "bitches" hanging out with us.:laugh2:

Since I can't find a job, I decided to volunteer somewhere. I tried volunteering at a library but had to quit after 9 months because it was too far. 30 minute drive one way. Couldn't afford the gas.

Tried the hospital which is 10 minutes away but they wanted me to work at the front desk. I told them there was no way I can do that being deaf. I prefer not to deal with the public. So she said she would call me if there's something else. Fast forward a year and half. I did call to follow up months later, she said nothing still. This one I didn't tell them I was deaf until the appointment.

I am now trying a retirement community which is 13 minutes away. I explained straight away that I was deaf in the email application and that I do not want to deal with residents. I felt I had nothing to lose, after all this isn't a job. I don't care if they don't call at least I told them upfront and I won't have to know about it if they don't want me as a deaf person. Well they emailed so I have an appt next month. I also did apply for a job there as well so we will see. I am volunteering for several reasons, to help out, to fill in my resume and to have a foot in the door for potential jobs in the future over there. Sad part is I used to live 1 minute away from them. Recently moved.

Am excited to at least do something.
