Hi All,

I'm new here in this forum.

I'm wearing hearing aids from childhood (from the age of 3), now I'm 28 years old.
I used to wear analog HA's.
My HA's were getting old so I bought a new HA's.
My new HA's are digital (first time of using digital).

I ordered Versata Art ITE and got them one week ago.

The new HA's are really powerful and I guess I hear with them better.

But I have one major problem - there several tones that sound to me worse.
For example:
1. Closing the kitchen doors.
2. I'm playing tennis - the hit of the tennis ball.
3. Fork and knife on a plate.
4. Applause.

What I feel is that I don't hear the peak of the sound, like that the peak of the sound is shuttled down.

I went to my audiologist and he tried every possible feature reconfiguration, none of this helped.
He tried to cancel the sound recover, to change the percentage of how much the HA's are closing to be analog.

The final conclusion was that I need to get used to those sounds, my brain was gotten used to analog HA's for 25 years.

Is anyone experienced the feeling I've described above?
Is it right that it's possible to get used to this NEW sounds?

It does take time to get used to the "new" sounds. Continue to work with your audiologist during your trial period. If at the end of the trial period you're still not happy, then ask to trial a different HA.

The one thing I remember when getting new aids is how loud a flushing toilet is. I eventually got used to it and it now sounds "normal". When my workplace put in new hand dryers, I had to get used to their loudness. Luckily, my Naidas have a feature that will adjust the HAs when there is a continuous loud noise.

LoveBlue,

Thanks for your reply, you succeeded to encourage me.
You said it takes time to get used to the "new" sounds, and after while it sounds normal.
How much time did it take you to hear those sounds normal?

Again, thanks!

Oh, I don't remember how long it took me. I do remember having to deal with tinniness and hallow sounding...making multiple trips to the audi for adjustments.

Years ago, when I got my 2nd analog HA (had been wearing just one for 5 years) they gave me a different brand than the one I had. After trying it for a few week and with a few adjustments, I returned it and asked them to order the same brand that I was wearing in the other ear. That one worked fine for me.

Remember everyone's hearing is different and what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another, even if they have the same hearing loss per the hearing tests.

Hopefully you have a good audi (a good audi is as important, or perhaps more important, than a good HA) who will work with you to get the HAs (the ones you have a another brand/model) working to your satisfaction.

I have naidas and had the older version of the versatas ..i never wore analog only digital so I dunno bout the transition..but i've "heard" lol that it takes time to get used to digital sounds vs analog..even new digital aids will sound diff from other digital aids..i'd say give it a few weeks :)

Thanks again.

AliciaM,
If you see this message I'll be grateful if you will be able response this post thread.
I've seen that you have my Ha's and you are really enjoy these HA's.

no problem:) lol and I'm not sure if it's the difference b/w having ITE's or bte's i've only had BTE's so ya...maybe ud like the bte's better?

I changed to digitals three years ago and they took a little while to get used to after analog. At first they sounded much quieter, but the audi assured me that I would find an improvement in clarity, with use.

There is also a difference between my ears. The sound from my right HA has never been as clear as the left, when I asked the audi about this she said that my right ear would never be as clear as the left. Having tried my left HA in my right ear I think she was probably correct.

AliciaM,

All the years I used to have ITE HA's, the audiologist had suggested BTE HA's when I ordered the HA's but I didn't listen to him and ordered ITE.
I don't think that it's the source of the "NEW" sounds I've described below.

The audiologist thinks that the source of those "NEW" sounds are related to the difference between analog to digital, I hope he is right.
I'll continue to make my brain working hard to get used to the new HA's.

Thanks again for your response!

djchur,

When I asked my audiologist what the common complains about digital HA's are,
he said that the users complained that everything sounds much quieter.
But this doesn't disturb me.

Thanks for your response!

AliciaM,

I used to wear ITE HA's all the years, so I continued with this approach.
I'll bring that point to my audiologist.
He thinks that the reason is related to the movement from analog to digital.
I hope he is right.

I'll continue to make my brain working hard...

Thanks again!

i doubt the sound from ite to bte is diff..just noting that maybe the bte's would be more comfy? not that thats one of ur complaints..but neway i have no doubt its the transition from analog to digital
