For those looking for a way out of jury duty, one Vermont man may have discovered a new way to thwart staying in court. But it could also come with some major consequences.

James Lowe, of Barnet, Vt., decided to show up to jury duty on Tuesday in a full black-and-white striped prisoner’s costume. He was then sent home by the judge once they saw what outfit he had on.

According to The Caledonian Record, Lowe showed up on time and joined the rest of the prospective jurors before the selection process started. Once it began, deputies told Lowe that he was to meet a judge in a corresponding courtroom where he was then told to leave.

The judge said that he could have found Lowe in contempt of court, which may have meant a fine or jail time, Lowe said. Lowe added that when he was summoned to be a juror, there were no restrictions on the clothing, but he wasn’t too hurt being released since he had obligations for family and work that he needed to attend to.

Too bad he didn’t bring a ball and chain with him also.

You are very, very unpatriotic so it is best for you to leaving USA.

I could help you to move to North Korea or Iran.

You could sue the county or city for violation of ADA law, or contact DOJ.

It is illegal to turn you away from jury duty because you are deaf.

For me, I would contact sheriff and they are very helpful when deal with court issues.

This happen years ago so it would be no point in trying to sue. I meant to say that in my first post but to forgot .

Fox lets be realistic here. How can you hear the evidence when lawyers discuss the case? I agree with whatdidyousay reason why judge turned him away

I am Dead Deaf, and I have no problem with listening to attorney discussin these evidence. Its not that hard, pretty much same what everybody else listening to.

And the real problem is... YOU shows oppression, Joker! Hope you wake up and find that its wasteful to be oppressors.

Jury Duty is guaranteed under US Constitution.

Toobad if you don't like and I remember about you prefer to have military court. :ugh:

I have served on a jury and liked the experience. However, I am not too sure being a juror is an inherent right.......

I've been summoned a few times and the court provided interpreter. It has never been an issue for me if I were to serve in a jury box. The court excused me once the jury box gets filled so never got a chance yet.

The same way you "hear" other people. Interpreters, CART, Assistive Listening Devices, etc. They are required to provide the means. You just need to let them know when you get the summons so they have time to arrange it.

Americans have the right to be tried by jury.

They have an obligation to serve on a jury when called. They don't have the right to serve on a jury. They can be dismissed from a jury for many reasons.

If too many people find ways to avoid jury duty, defendants will be less likely to get a quick and speedy trial with a jury of their peers.

If you expect a fair jury trial when you or a loved one is the defendant you should be willing to do whatever jury service you are called upon to do for others.

Otherwise, the jury pool shrinks.

Also, the experience helps citizens observe the justice system at work rather than getting their impressions from TV shows and movies.

One of my brother in law loves to do jury duty . I told the court I was HOH as I wanted them to know . They send me a letter saying would call if they needed me and I never heard back.

Don't forget include offer fair trial, if too many refused then the less chance the suspect gets fair trial. One of flaw that I know of, and is one of reason why I am against death penalty.

But what if you do not know ASL what do use ? The court did not asked in their letter if I could use an interpreter . I would had no , so I really not sure what other means there was open to me.

Probably CART live transcripting or Assisted Listening Devices/special headsets.
It depends on your preference.
