I'm hard of hearing with a hearing child.
Hello, I am in great need of help. I had some problem with my child teacher in communicating. I need to know if anybody else has had any problem like me. 1st off I didn't like the teacher as she talked very low. After 2 1/2 mths after school started, I started to like her. We would meet from time to time about my son. Well in October my son's dad came back in the pics again for the 6th time and as usual he left again. Only this time my son is at the age now that he know what is going on. He know what promises means. Well 2 weeks after he realize that he wasn't coming back it hit him so hard that he started acting out toward other kids at school and the teacher by pushing them, hitting them or yelling at them. The teacher would call me to let me kow what is going on with him. After a couple of days he is still doing this and the teacher would call me again only this time we would talk about what has been happening on and off school campus. We would put our head together and try to figure out what to do. Well we decided that he is angry at his dad which is why he was doing what he was doing. So, I talk to him that night and he confess that he is angry at his dad for leaving him again. Okay, things has been great since we had this talk. 2 weeks later he has started falling asleep in class and it was so bad that she'll call me again about it. Again, we put our heads together to try to figure this out. She would tell me what he is doing at school and I the same at home. I told her about dreams that he was having about me. So, we figure maybe he thought I was leaving him so I talked to him that nite and everything has been great since then, no more nightmare about me so it is wonderful. If it wasn't for the teacher helping me or each other we would probably still trying to figure it out. We had gotten to know each other a little bit and talked on personal level from time to time but a lot of time it was about my child. Okay, I know that was long but in order for you to help me you would had to know what had happened. One day I rec'd an email from the teacher stating that we can no longer talk on the phone, write by email or on paper unless it is an emergency, child is sick or it is pertaining to the child learning. When I got that message it had blown me out of the water. She left me hanging. What was I suppose to do. I still ask millions of question about his school work, how it is to be done, or what can I do to help him understand what ever homework he has. I am HOH and all my life I went to public school. I was always put in resource classes (slow learner) and never ever had to do projects, essays, anything that a hearing child had to do. Well, now that I have a child who is hearing 100% I am having that chance now so you bet I have millions of questions to ask in order to be able to help my child. I'll be dang if my child get a bad grade because i didn't know how to do something and told him wrong. Well, the contacting part was getting out of hands (so they say.) it was so bad that they got the school police chief to call me and asked me not to contact the teacher anymore. I was to send my questions to the principle either by phone or email and the principle would give it to the teacher. Well, how do I know the teacher is getting her message. How do I know I'm gonna get the answers I need before they leave the school building in order to help my son? Well, I do know that the principle wasn't dependable. I left a message to her (email) to tell the teacher about a change of clothes in his backpack and that if he need to go to the bathroom is to please let him go. Well, 2 weeks later the principle finally replied to that message so i know the teacher never got it. I asked one last time (to the teacher) about a project that needed to be turned in, in two days. Boy, (I was told) that she (the teacher) blew a fuse. She called the school police again. the police called me the next day but after my mother told me that i was to call the police I went straight to the principle office that very next morning and waited for the principle to arrive. While sitting there, I saw the teacher came in and boy did she zoom by so fast and piss. So, I talked with the principle about what had happened. Did you know that if I contact the teacher one more time she was going to file an harrassment against me. Come on! How in the heck am I going to be able to ask questions so I can or know how to help my son with his school work?
Well, this was pretty bad and it wasn't handled very well and many time I have tried to explain something that they took wrong and more I tried the more they must have thought I was a threat to them.
So, now you know all that happened so now I have 10 more years to have to go thru this. Are there any rights or protecting for me. I'll be damn if I get charged for harrassment for asking millions of questions to help my child. Does, ADA have anything to help me? Has anybody experience something like this? Please I need answer fast. I am in the process of trying to get this matter taken care of before August come around. I sure the hell ain't going thru this again.
