Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know that I have an appointment with my audi on Wednesday for a balance test (called a videonystagmography or VMG). I originally thought I wouldn't need to have this done since my CI surgeon said I have BPPV, but my audi would like to know the exact cause of my dizziness and nausea. I'll keep you updated on what I find out. According to my audi, it should take a week to interpret the results.

Hi Hear again.
Welcome back to All Deaf. I was missing you when we were banned. Even though we don't always get on but I'm really glad you are back anyway.

I hope this test goes well.

(Hugs)

I hope you find out the exact cause too as well.

I have horrible tinnitus and it causes me to walk to the right.

I've been falling down a lot & had to use a wheelie walker for support.

For long distances, I use the wheelie walker. Short distances I use the white cane.

I have learned that certain foods I eat can trigger the tinnitus.

Sodium, chocolates and caffeine.

I am able to eat white chocolate and I brew a lot of lavender tea.

I buy lavender buds and I brew tea for bed time and I make iced tea out of that as well. It is very de-stressing & helps me.

Just a thought for you, try lavender. It is a wonderful scent.

Miss Bucket,

I have alot of chemical sensitivities so unfortunately, I can't use lavender.

As far as tea is concerned, I really don't like the taste of it.

(I don't mean to tear down your suggestions. Thank you for mentioning them. :))

I also have severe tinnitus which has been bothering me constantly for the past 2 weeks.

I will be returning for a guide dog within the next month or two, so I may look into the possibility of having my dog trained to help maintain my balance.

Oh totally understood.

The chemical sensitives must be hard on you. Tea was hard for me to accept because I love coffee very much, LOL. Coffee was a trigger for me for my migraines and my tinnitus. I never experienced horrible withdrawal with coffee. Oh my gravy, I was actually fantasizing coffee beans this and that. *shivers*

When I have really bad tinnitus, I submerge myself in a bath. I stay in the complete dark & hubby knows when I stay in a dark bathroom, I need to be left alone. It does help with the tinnitus, for me that is.

I really do hope you have success with your guide dog trained with balance.

Hang in there.

Videonystagmography is a test that pictures your eye movements and relates to balance.

Curious as to how will that work for you since you are born blind? Your eyes shouldn't do much with your balance should they?

I asked my audi that question because I have congenital nystagmus due to my blindness.

I was told this shouldn't have an impact on the test and if it does, she and my CI surgeon will take it under consideration when they interpret the results.

That's interesting. Don't forget to tell us the results.

I have bad balance and I know it is in my inner ear, from the doctor saying so, but I never had that kind of test.

Thanks Mrs Bucket. :)

The chemical sensitivities I have are due to a combination of allergies and
my 21 year history of migraines. Any kind of scent can cause me to have an allergy headache or a migraine.

However, my GP just increased my Topamax which I take as a migraine preventative. According to what she told me, the Topamax should help reduce or eliminate both kinds of headaches. I've only been at this dosage for 2 weeks, so it will take another week or two before I notice any positive change. I'm pretty confident I'll see some good results since many people who are on the dose I am (100mg) notice a marked improvement in their migraines and headaches.

I'll be sure to let you know what I find out.

From what I was told, the VMG will indicate where my dizziness is occurring.

Thanks Mrs Bucket. :)

I have been on Topomax for over 15 years and will continue to be on it for a long time. Yes, Topomax is a lifesaver.

I used to have chronic disabling migraines until Topomax helped with them.

You will notice a big difference, if not now, in your daily lifestyle. Topomax helps in a lot of ways besides migraine preventative.

Mrs Bucket,

How else does Topamax help you? I've noticed that it decreased my appetite which isn't necessarily a bad thing. :)

Sorry for the off-topic post. If you'd like to respond via PM, that's fine. :)
