Uggie dies

I see a double standard between pets and people. How come its legal for an vet to kill ur pet and your doctor cant? :hmm:

Assisted suicide is allowed in Oregon and I think another state .

If theres a death penalty in your state then there should be assisted suicides too. But you should go to court to get judges approval why you want to die.

That would be a waste of taxpayers money and by the time you get a day in court you may already had drop dead !

While I see what you are saying.... I would actually l like for assisted susiside to be allowed on some level... but having the courts in it... I do not like... let it stay between the doctor and the patient...

I agree , keep the court out of it , it would be very hard on the person , they may not be able to get out of bed if they want assisted suicide .
I had clients that were bedbound and there would had been no way for them to do all the paper work and get to court and this would be too hard on the family too. There is no needs to get the court involved that would made be become public and it's no one business but the family and doctors.

That's why the living will is there for a reason. :)

Unfortunately even if you want to 'keep the courts out of it' some families will still go to court to block assisted suicide if they feel their family member is not of sound mind (when quite possibly they are). Kind of like what happened with the Teri Schiavo case.

But having to have a judge's/court's approval is overkill (sorry bad choice of words but.. I'm tired).

I do not want the courts involved because it sets the president that the governmwnt says when you can die... slippery slop that is best avoided.... if we have the right of life, liberty, and pursuits of happiness that should also mean when we want our life to end.
But I still agree with your reasons for saying no to having to go to courts....

Families should not have a say, somehow our society has deemed life is most important...but having control of if and when you want to die is a very personal matter... many people I know and talk to do not want the burden on their families, or do not want to suffer a long death, while others want an honorable death... there are so many reasons that sadly I do not believe families should be able to control due to selfishness or misplaced love...

Poor Uggie , his thread got hijack about assisted suicide ,

Even when Uggie was alive, he wouldn't have been able to understand or care that he was a forum topic.

Julian Bond just died, but apparently managed to escape your attention for another sad face forum thread.

It happens... threads develop a life of their own many times... I don't think it was hijacked it just happened that it became a jumping off point for another discussion- nothing wrong with that.

And I still don't know who Uggie was.
