Hello folks,

I checked Amazon.com about UFO Megaset box-set by A&E home but they do not have closed caption or SDH. However, I discovered that UK edition has closed caption but only DVD region 2 when I checked UK version of Amazon web site. That will not play in US DVD players due to corporation interests. Hmmm.

I know that A&E refuse to provide closed caption/SDH for any movies unless their own movies/documentary. According to other topics, I can't sue them unless they own. :(

When I was kid long time ago, I watched some UFO esipodes on TV. Today I found out that DVD version was finally out but closed caption in this US edition. Only UK edition does has.

Does anyone know that does Space 1999 Mageset has closed caption in UK edition?

Thanks!
Tim

Hi, Sword7.

There is UK edition of the Space 1999, but it doesn't have subtitles. :(
Sorry.

Mr. Bean - The Whole Bean (Complete Set) don't have Closed Caption, they from A&E, I know all A&E don't have Closed Caption

There are ways to remove the region setting on DVDs, If you could some how obtain a copy of the UK disks, it's possible to copy them to DVD-Rs and make the new copies "region free"

You'd have to change the region setting of your DVD burner, and the firmware (as far as I know) will let you do that only 5 times, so, if you're going to do this sort of thing more than once, it's best to buy a seperate DVD-R drive that's always set to region 2 (DVD-R drives are only about $30 so I'd say it's worth it).

I just remembered that UK disks are probably in PAL/Secam not NTSC, which is used in the US. Another problem to work around, however you should be able to watch the DVDs on your computer, or if your DVD player will play both PAL and NTSC video you should be fine.

UFO Volumes 1-4/5-8 box sets

Hello folks,

Thanks for your replies. I was able ordered two box sets (UFO vol. 1-4 and UFO vol. 5-8) through eBay today. ITV DVD offers closed caption for hearing impairment for their DVD products.

Good news! I checked Space 1999 by ITV DVD and they has closed caption as well. I will order them later.

Yes, I am aware of region 2 and PAL format. I can play them on my computer.

Thanks!
Tim

I am very happy to hear about that. I hope you will enjoy watching
with forbidden captioning that weren't available in the U.S.! :)

Oh, one thing: You can buy unlock DVD Player to become a region-free:
Amazon.com: Philips DVP5140 Multiformat DVD Player with DivX, MP3, Windows Media Support: Electronics
This is better cheap here at 220 Electronic website. ;) But I have it from there that is codefree. But not this item.
You can read on these reviews that they said that region is hacked
become turn into the region-free, also this system
have converter from PAL-to-NTSC. :)

Stop!, you cannot buy DVD in U.K. or Europe, they don't have Closed Caption, diffrent they call "TeleText" with subtitle
I show you BBC's TelText Ceefax1 Search you click "888" that won't work VHS or DVD, I guess DVD Subtitle / SDH. BBC same ITV, all Channel from UK use 888

Rhr, you are correct. I have some DVD from UK, because I need
subtitles on bonus materials and also MTV shows has forbidden
subtitles.
I said, this word "forbidden" that means, we are not available with closed-captioning or SDH in some titles such as Jackass (not movie), Beavis
and Butt-head IN US/Canada. Only UK/Europe has offer subtitles for
them.

Yes, though I wouldn't say you are missing out on anything since it's all physical comedy.

Yes, I know that about forbidden captioning due to lack of support by A&E. I did contacted A&E some time ago and was told that they does not provide closed captioing on all movies unless they own (due to a loophole in FCC requirements).

I did looked into that code-free DVD player and that is new to me. Thanks for info about that. I only have PS3 (Blu-Ray) and HD-DVD player at this time. Also, I was looking for additional code-free DVD players and able find alot through google searching!

Yes, both UFO and Space 1999 do have 'English - HI' subtitles after I recently contacted the seller about that. 'English - HI' means that DVD subtitles for hearing-impaired.

You're welcome. I glad Amazon let they have hacked turn into code-free
DVD player! It's like a charm! Just a marvelous! When my old DVD player
dies, I will buy that hackable region-free DVD player is sold by Amazon.

Good news! SDH captions worked here!

Hello,

Today I received a package from United Kingdom. It took a week to arrive here. I was able play one of UFO episodes and turned subtitles on. Yes, my DVD software player did displayed SDH captions. It worked so well.
