TSA doing their job? Think again!

It's not just TSA, the boy also sneaked past the gate agent to get into the plane. It took until flight attendant became suspicious and realized something is wrong. They had police waiting at the gate to get the boy and will be send back home probably at the expense of the company or they may bill the fare to his parents.

The boy was screened according to the article, TSA thought they went with his parents... obviously the boy did his homework how to breach the airport security.

"Thought"? That's bad idea, what if he was terrorist, eh? Why can't they just check up ANYWAY instead of let him go though?

Crooks usually DO the homework before committing crimes, so TSA shouldn't make any exception at all.

Fortunately the airliner employee were able to spot him as suspicious.

according to this article

The TSA allows special leniencies for travelling children, but Delta requires that minors flying alone must be accompanied to the departure gate by an adult, who must remain until the flight has taken off, according to their website.

If the unaccompanied minor arrives at the counter alone, the Delta agent will not be permitted to complete check in,” Delta’s website says.

Hogan said security footage showed the 9-year-old “waited until the person who was at the gate was busy, and that’s when he got on the plane.”
The TSA released a statement that said, “The child was screened along with all other passengers to ensure that he was not a threat to the aircraft."

Those bolded -- the boy knew what he is doing and did his homework. He is a runaway troubled kid.

How could the Security officials screen the boy when he had no tickets , you also need to show your ticket to the airline steward before getting on the plane and if a child is traveling alone a steward should check to see if the child need extra attention and recheck their ticket to made sure they're on the right place before it leave the airport. I fee the stewardess did not do their job too. That is one smart kid .

TSA - the whole system FAILED.

They also failed to detect some artificial weapons, and bombs. Now this boy. I wonder what a waste of our tax money over security devices and employers, yet they fail to secure the airport.

I have one question. Is it required for a person to show a ticket to an agent or screener before going through security?

I have one question. Is it required for a person to show a ticket to an agent or screener before going through security?

Yup. Every time I've flown lately you have to have your ticket and ID out and ready waiting in line for security, agent checks and marks your ticket and then you proceed to taking off your shoes belts blah blah blah.

I suppose he could have gotten in line behind a family with children and made like he was with them? When it's a group you don't actually get individual tickets and minors don't have to provide ID. If he did sneak in with a family if the agent didn't do a head count he could get away with it. Who would think a 9 year old was at the air port by himself?

We don't have any major attack since 9/11.

TSA did thwarted most attacks and suspicious activities but not perfect.

Yes, I have to show the airplane ticket when I go into TSA area.

OIC, then TSA should ask a person showing more than one ticket who goes with him/her. I am sure that they learned a lesson and will do a head count from now on. Shit happens.

New details about boy who sneaked onto flight

County worker says boy also sneaked into water park, stole car, newspaper reports

CNN) -
That 9-year-old Minnesota kid who slipped through security and hopped a flight to Las Vegas is no stranger to child protection investigators, who say he has a history of sneaking into a water park and was recently arrested after allegedly stealing a car, according to an email obtained by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

And it turns out that his mother works at the airport where he began his journey, the newspaper said.

The newspaper reported that Janine Moore, area director of the Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health Department, wrote in an email to agency administrators and County Board members of the boy's "pattern of behavior," which has included hanging out at a Bloomington, Minn., water park and blending in with a large family to slip through without paying.

She describes him as a "challenging" child, according to the Star Tribune.

The newspaper reported that Moore said the boy's mother works at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and that "there is also an investigation into whether she aided him flying to Las Vegas." The newspaper did not report who was conducting that investigation.

Authorities have been trying to figure out how the child was able to slip past security and airline gate agents and board Delta Flight 1651 without detection.

The boy went through security with other passengers, the Transportation Security Administration said in a statement Sunday, but officials were still trying to figure out how he did it -- and how he then got on the flight Thursday.

Patrick Hogan, a spokesman for the airport, said the crew "became suspicious of the child's circumstances" during the flight. Crew members got in touch with authorities in Las Vegas and turned the boy over to Child Protective Services, Hogan said in a statement.

The boy's status was to be discussed in a Las Vegas court Tuesday, a spokesman for Minnesota's Hennepin County said. He remained there pending a decision on what to do with him.

The agency did not immediately return a CNN telephone message Tuesday seeking comment on the Star Tribune report.

According to the Star Tribune, Moore said child protective workers have investigated the boy's family life four times.

"The reports have been inconsistent and there have been no injuries to the child; however, there is a pattern of behavior," the newspaper quoted her as saying in the e-mail.

The newspaper said Moore wrote that the boy was arrested two weeks ago after allegedly stealing a car. The email didn't indicate whether the boy was the driver of the car or a passenger, the newspaper reported.

The newspaper also said Moore wrote that the boy has alleged that his mother has held a knife to his throat and that she was "stabbed and died."

"Typically, staff can tell if a child is lying, but with this child, they are unsure what is going on," the newspaper quoted the email as reading.

No wonder the boy did his homework.. his mother works at the airport and is not the first time he has been runaway.

The boy's father speaks out (source)... sounds like there is a lot to work to do on the boy as to why he took his own adventure without permission.

Oh no... tell the congress to abandon TSA and return to private security to take care of airport security.

If passes - RIP TSA 2001-2015

I just love how the news showed that TSA failed to notice plastic bomb on a person back , I bet the terrorists are taking notes on all TSA weak spots .

That is not what I said , I am talking TSA not noticing someone trying to bring a bomb on a plane , this was on the news tonight . I don't think it so smart to put on the news what TSA is doing wrong , I can just see terrorists making notes on this. I feel this undermined us by keeping show how bad a job we're doing in security in our country . I don't like other countries knowing our weakness . I want USA to known a powerful country not by run by the Three Stooges .
