Hello,
My name is Daisy I am 25, I have a close cousin her name is Martha and she is 24.
She was born deaf and mute and she also is dyslexic. She lives in Mexico where unfortunately the level of education for any kind of disability is extremely low. She really has no friends and does not have the ability to read or write. I want to help her but I am not sure how. When we talk all she tells me is that she wants to have friends who can understand her. Any ideas on how I can help her? Thank you.

How do the two of you communicate with each other?

 Hello and welcome to this forum.

Can your cousin relocate to the USA to get an education? I believe that is the best way to do to help her.

I am trying to see if she can relocate her however her parent live in mexico. I want her to come and live with me but since she is 24 there is not much I can do legally....

She went to school for about 12 years, a "Special Ed School" and she learned sign language there. Now is spanish sign language so is not the same I am not sure why it is not made universal but anyway we are able to comunicate ok but I know that now she is lonely. I just wish I could help her out

Not everyone in LA are Mexicans, LA is extremely diverse and numerous different of latino, such as from Central America and South America. There's alot of immigrants from Europe and Asia, also including former Soviet Union and Middle East, such as Persians from Iran. There's alot of white and asans that live in anywhere of LA area and most blacks are from South LA, also some in certain area.

Umm, I am tryin' to think of somethin' that may be an easier for you to help her. I wonder, is there any store that carry " ABC's " children books ? That's the only thing I can think of to help buildin' her education. Just startin' from the basic and, then goin' from there. Hope that helps. :)

Any " visual " book might help.

Hi. If u want ur cousin visit u, she can get visa to stay in US *limit to 3 months* if she wants to stay in US more than 3 month, she will have to apply to get extended visa permit unless she have to prove that she is attending to college or education that way she can apply for potical aylumn (sp?). My friend from europe made it thru with no knowledge of english and she studied hard to learn our language and she succeed to stay as permanent. Wish ur cousin the best luck.
