I am finally trialing a new hearing aid! I got my last one in 1996 when I was already profound but have been virtually stable. The main interest is the new features that have come out since. I know some will blink or question at the mention of “one”; but I have been completely deaf in the left ear since 1947 at the age of 5. Then the right one was very, very good for many years and I didn’t get my first aid until I was in my 30's.

What I have to try is the Phonak Naida Q 90-UP, ComPilot, and Remote Mike. Even working with a field rep. from Phonak we have been unable to get the Remote Mike to come in clearly for me which is definitely disappointing. So, the Remote Mike will be going back. I do like using the ComPilot as a remote switching from one program to another (most often used to go to the FM system at church via a neckloop I already have and the church’s receiver).

Going from analog to digital has its annoyances. But I keep reminding myself during the beeping delay when first putting it on that it is like a computer booting. What makes me want to ring a programers neck is when it takes a notion to turn itself down! I am used to setting volume myself and it staying there! After some adjustments it is not doing it as much. I also don’t like that when I switch from FM to Sound Flow or Sound Flow to FM there is a delay with beeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought the remote function would make it easy to go from my pastor on FM to comments from the congregation during part of the service. But NO there is a bit of a delay with beeps which means that I miss the very first of what is said by the person I just switched to listen to and that means that I very likely don’t understand any of what a fellow member is saying.

I do like the idea of the water resistance but wish it was waterproof so if I get back to swimming I could wear it. I do have one that is that I have to have all the way up and even did at the time I bought it for that feature.

I am hoping to get the ComPilot paired with my cell phone later today. I have NEVER worked with pairing ANY bluetooth items!!! So desperately seeking tips. It seems like it would be so helpful with something else I am just getting started with Hamilton CapTel: Smartphone: Android. I have used their web version with two phones — using the browser in one phone like you would your computer browser and the other phone to talk. I have discovered a different provider for cell service, activated a phone, downloaded this app, and made one call using a T-coil neckloop that has a mike in it. But, it appears to me that the ComPilot would be a good way of being aware of incoming calls.

Good Luck with the Naidas and ComPilot etc. I love my Naidas but I don't have the ComPilot. :)

I also agree with you about wishing they were waterproof or at least better water resistant rating. :)

I have an FM program but I have it on EasyFM which means I don't need to change program's etc. I find it changes straight away and there is no delay.

On your phone. ... Go into settings> Blue tooth, tick the box next to where it gives your device name. On the ComPilot: turn it on. Press the volume up and button with two arrows on the side together and hold until blue light flashes on top. Press "Scan" on your phone. The Compilot should show up listed. .. select it and the pairing process will begin. That should do it. Good luck! :)

Hamilton captel is great if you get used to the lag. I used to use it to talk to my husband when he was out of town but I had enough hearing to know when he stopped talking and the 20-40 second delay was just awkward. We prefer to text.

Changing from analog to digital is HARD! When I got my Naidas EVERYTHING sounded slushy for a week or two. I actually was reluctant to talk because I was afraid I sounded funny.
After a few weeks, I suddenly realized that I was actually hearing /s/ and /sh/!!!! All that slushieness was my brain trying to get used to a sound it hadn't heard before (or at least in many years).
Good luck.

Is the delay that long on the Captel??? I was thinking about getting one for work but I a delay that long is not going to work. Do you have yours set up with your cable or DSL or just through a regular phone line.

If you get your CI, be prepared to hear a lot of weird things for a while :D
