Hwy 55 is shut down from south of me all the way to St. Louis county due to 2 semi's accidents in different locations, closed in both directions, rush hour is a mess being diverted for the 3o+ miles of closure, then yet more small accidents on the back roads slowing everything down yet some more. MoDot is saying the highway may remain closed up to 9pm or later??? Tonight is my wifes turn to make dinner and she's not home yet...lol

Well, Im nice enough, I started prepping everything ( cutting up the veggies, chicken ) and having it at the ready to cook. Making Fajitas tonight...WOOT WOOT !!!!

Not a criticism really, but I am curious, when she goes out to work, while you stay at home, why does she need to be the cook at all?

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllll,
We have come to the conclusion, since the kids are old enough and they need to learn some economic skills, everyone cooks a meal each day of the week, sat/sun are leftover or fend for yourself days ( eating out or whatever )
My wife is trying new recepies on her day and the kids search the net for recepies they want to cook and we groecery shop sunday for the following week.
It has been working out great, something different every week.
her daughter loves to make spaghetti, but told her she couldnt make that every week on her day ( too simple, boil noodles, cook sausage and add sauce ) a 5 yo can do that. Her son always wanted frozen pizzas...NOPE!!!! So he makes tacos and stuff like that.
Me I make country style dinners and my wife makes a variety of stuff, sometimes I go out of my way with cooking from 6am til 5pm to have a good meal depends on what it is ( stew, pot roast...ect...)
Actually tonight was my night but because I made dinner on my wifes night we switched this week, but I am helping prep it, and if traffic keeps her too long I will start it soon myself... its no biggie.
But all in all, This was my wifes Idea to start teaching her kids some skills for them to go off on their own, otherwise they would just live on fast foods which they prefer anyways if you let them have their ways.

That sound like a good plan , but I will have to disagree about a 5 yo being able to cook spaghetti, I would never had allowed child to do that that age .
It involve using hot boil water. And a child could get burn trying to stove the on.

Its just a figure of speech at how easy and simple it is...basically a meal in a box/jar... trying to teach them to cook and eat healthy.
Once the garden starts producing we wont have to buy so much, got tons of tomatoes already sprouting from grapes, cherries, beefsteaks and romas... cant wait. Fresh salsa, salads and more.

I remember my parents cooking down tomatoes to make their own sauces, freezing and canning...which we are planning to can a lot as well to last over the winter.

My parents canned food too, but they not did grow it . I sure wish I could grow veggies too but there is no place on my condo and when I did try it grow some on my deck the ants made an aphids farm on my tomatoes plants.
We have tons of ants around here. My dad made a mean paste sauce , he would put lobster in it . Man that was sooo good.

Put seven dust around and on the plants they should be fine after that just make sure to wash them good before consumed.

Updates... That very night last week, My wifes ac went out in the van, she was stuck in traffic at 100 degrees, she has a medical condition that she cant sweat and passes out in the heat. Well, I got a call and she got off the highway finally but had to go i a place with ac, she started shaking and nearly passed out (she was supposed to take my truck that day but didnt since my ac is ice cold) so, I had to run and get her and almost had an ambulance take her to the er but there was no way for an ambulance to get to her anytime fast due to the traffic and I was closer.
got her home and cooled her down. She said this was the worst she ever felt this close to an attack... she cramped up ( her hands cramped and went numb ) but them again its been 5 years since she actually passed out when I first met her and were out at a flea market, that was scary, but I knew about it beforehand so I kinda knew what was going on as she would say she felt like she was going to p a s s ooooo uuu t. lol
So I ended up making dinner anyways as I already had it prepped, while she laid down with cold rags on her head and took a cold shower to cool down and drank ice water. We have to take it easy during family outings as well ( six flags..ect...) especially if its hot that day. We try to plan outings when the weather is nice or cooler, but advance planning we cant control mother nature.

whoa this is medically interesting for me. a medical condition that she cannot sweat? fascinating.

I'm glad that she didn't pass out while driving. she made a right choice to quickly get off the road and head into a place to cool down.

Yep I didnt know about it either till she told me about it, since I have only heard of it seldomly...its pretty rare.

Anhidrosis is what its called
Anhidrosis Definition - Diseases and Conditions - Mayo Clinic

Yeah, I found out about the accidents and highway being shut down, tried to call her at work and give her directions for an alternative route home but was too late. Thats when she told me that she was feeling bad and since she was still too far away to make it home I told her to go somewhere cool and I will pick her up. Later that evening my buddy went with me to get the van and bring it home since the evenings are cool. So now she drives my truck to work. At least she is safe and cool.

Maybe she could keep some ice packs in a cooler with her when away from the house?

We don't have AC on our trike, so I improvise. We have those cooling neckerchiefs that you soak and keep in the fridge until time to wear. I also created a cooler by filling a zip lock bag with ice and hanging it on a badge cord around my neck so it keeps my core cool. Filling a camel-back pack with ice/cold water keeps the body cool, too. (Their primary use is supposed to be for drinking water but it makes a great body cooler, too.)

Yes, she bought some of the cooling neckercheifs recently. I used them when I worked at Water Division out digging up mains...they help.

hmmm.... ah - it's saying that people with anhidrosis sweat LESS than normal so basically your wife can sweat but just too little which is enough to make it a serious medical risk when overheated.

True to an extent, she doesnt sweat like we do, her skin only feels damp or clammy like, sweat doesnt roll off her or soak her shirt or anything ( working outside i will be dripping and my clothes soaked, she will still be dry as a bone ) but when she is actually dry to the touch, thats where she gets into trouble. We moved just a few weeks ago, everyone (myself, kids, other help) were soaked in sweat and she didnt even break a bead on her forehead..... although you can feel she is damp, you dont see any sweat. Kinda hard to explain. But she will tell me " I need to go sit down, cool off" and thats when I know when she is actually dry to the touch, and close to passing out.

The stepdaughter and her boyfriend are away to house sit for his parents, so Im cooking all week, Today is Pulled Pork Special !!!!!
should last a couple days and then Im BBQ'n it up!
