Tot accidentally kills brother

WEST VALLEY CITY -- A game involving a toy gun turned deadly Tuesday when two small boys retrieved a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic Glock from the family's safe.
Ryker Lambert, 3, died after his 4-year-old brother accidentally shot him in the face at close range, West Valley police say.
"Everything leads us to believe this is just a tragic accident," Capt. Craig Black said.
The two boys were unsupervised between 8:30 a.m. and noon, Lt. T. McLachlan said. Their mother, Reagan Lambert, works as an armed night security guard. Her shift ended at 4 a.m. When their father, Ryan Lambert, went to work as a tow-truck driver at 8:30 that morning, she returned to bed.
The 4-year-old boy woke her up at about noon to say Ryker had been shot. She didn't hear the gunfire.
Reagan Lambert called dispatchers at 12:06 p.m. from her home near 4500 South and 4100 West, but police don't know what time the shooting actually occurred.

That's very sad! I thought by now, parents would've gotten more responsible about safelocking guns and keeping the keys and ammo away from the gun itself. :(

*smh* the mom should have used other avenues to have the kids supervised then this would not have happened cuz she said she was SLEEPING! how can a sleeping parent supervise kids qq *rme* why not just get a babysitter/nanny while shes sleeping so that way the kids ARE supervised -- i believe the blame should be laid partly on the irresponsibile parent(s) and yes its sad

Serves the parents right for not locking up the gun properly or teaching the kids proper gun safety. :fu2:

I'm kinda appalled that even kids that young play with "toy" guns... they can be lead to believe that any gun might be a toy.

It is sad, but it is sheer stupidity of the parents to 1) leave the kids unattended, even if they are still under the same roof, 2) allow their kids to play cop and robber or similar games, and 3) leave the safe open!

I for one think that ALL guns should be banned from family homes IE; any parents who have kids under the age of 16 should not have a gun in the house, and if the job requires parents to have a weapon on them for on call duties, those guns should be left in the car or in another part of the hosue where the kids aren't allowed to go into.... IE; outside shed or thier bedroom with understanding the bedroom is to be locked ( parent's bedroom) and the mother that was asleep should be charged with child neglect for unsupervision of the child where it was resulted in a death of another child, last but not the least, ALL kids should be aware at age of 3 and up not to touch guns of ANY kind, toy guns and up cuz the mistakes they see can lead deadly! they want to play cops and robbers use a lego and make that OR use thier finger and make a pow pow sound don't use anything realistic!

This is like the Columbine Shooting. They blame the computer game Doom, the movie Matrix, and the guns. Well, it turns out that the parents weren't involved with their kids lives so they never knew what went on. If the parents have taken the time to stop by the kid's room, they would have found all of the weapons and stopped it in time.

The same goes here, blaming guns isn't gonna solve anything. If you remove guns, there will still be knives. If you remove knives, there will still be baseball bats or hockey sticks. There will always be something to use. Another thing, we limit guns to cops only... well, there are bad and dirty cops out there. We ban all guns completely, how will we defend ourselves in our own homes? Therefore, the parents should be responsible for putting their gun in a safe place... or not have a gun in the first place. It was their decision to have a gun in the house and they took a risk. Now, they've learned their lesson.

oh my goodness,,,,, I wont allow any guns in my house ...... all of my guns are at my parents house for safely .......

i felt real sad about two brothers killed by playing around with the guns.... their mother should hear the loud sound..... i dont beleive that she cant hear the sound ...... i feel funny about boys mother ..... oh well it is hard to explain to you how i felt about boys mother

JUST now relized one thing that safety on the gun should have been locked, with a speical locking feature to prevent any mishap, and this is what happens and kristy i just relized ur right there should have been a loud bang and that does raise suspcious with me, I entirely doubt that the kid's mother didn't hear it when this happened in the very same house.... DEEP sleep should have been able to hear it or FEEL it for that matter for example last night i was asleep and so was my dog and we both woke up to a LOUD bang and turns out one of the doors in the house got slammed shut by the wind but it was indeed felt and yes I EVEN heard it too cuz it did at first sound like a gunshot!....
and another example i was outside on the porch having a smoke and i heard three succession of a gunshot ringing out and my mom and dad heard it too and reported it to the cop, dad met them out on the street as we have too many dogs EH running loose and we didn't want them to come on top the property to be distracted and made the report, So turns out three streets down from us was a drug house and there was one arrest related to this gunshot and so since then there has been NO gunshots coming out from this area, SO therefore that should have been heard it was LOUD here so it can be heard in my concept, MY FEELING mother was under the influence OR just thought the kid dropped something and chose to ingore it, still wrong should have gotten up and the gun shouldn't have been anywhere in the household except the parent's bedroom in a closet where that closet is locked at all times! like i said, that gun should have had its safety on at all times!

I've got an bb gun (rifle), pistol, bow/arrow, and blowdart tube. I got the bb gun when i was 6 years old. I got the bow/arrow when I was 10 years old. I got the pistol when I was 14 years old. I got the blow dart when I was 18 years old. You're probably thinking that I'm now a dangerous man for having all of that. Seriously, I know what I'm doing... cuz my parents taught me appropriately. :thumb:

I'm glad to hear that you take responsibility in handling weapons properly.
