I generally don't like tipping. I do it, though, because I'd be branded a social outcast if I don't, but I really feel like tips should only be optional and only go to someone who has truly done great service, the way it is in the rest of the world, especially Europe. I am genuinely happy to tip when I've received good service and been treated like a customer, but it seems so often these days, you go to a restaurant and the server acts like you don't exist but still expects something extra on top of their hourly wages.


To me, the way tipping has gone in America just reflects the ever increasing trend of an ingrained sense of entitlement and laziness in this country.
