As some of you know I just got my CI a couple of weeks ago. Well, in the last few days I've had a lot of tinnitus. Not all day long but it comes and goes. Sometimes pretty strongly. It hit my hard last night for a few hours.

I'm wondering how common this is. I know that head injuries can cause tinnitus. So I figure head surgery could possibly bring it on too. It's not to bad yet so I'll wait to talk to my doctor when I have to go in in a couple of weeks anyway unless it gets worse. But I just wanted to ask around about it.

Sorry, I am not a CI user. Curious, did you have tinnitus right before you had a CI? My hubby had a long history of having tinnitus since he was a kid. They recommended him to have CI. So he went for it and now He's a ci user. He still got the tinnitus anyway. Sorry that I wouldnt able to answer your question. Just wonder about the tinnitus that is very common for certain deaf people.

Yes, I had tinnitus after surgery. It took me 3 weeks until I turned CI on. The tinnitus will go away. That is normal for every patient after CI surgeon. You will be fine when you get CI activate and tinnitus will be gone.

I had and still suffers from tinnitus for 20 plus years. However since implanted it had improved as the CI is so powerful it masks the tinnitus. So therefore when I don't use my CI I still get tinnitus and it's not bad as it used to be. It doesn't bother me anymore unless I am really stressed out!!!!!

Excuse my messy English I am using my iPhone as my laptop is being upgraded at the moment.

There are no guarantees that a CI will get rid of tinnitus.

Most of the time, patients will have less noticeable tinnitus if not outright elimination of it. Some patients will have the same and unfortunately, some will have more.

For myself prior to the CI, I had mild tinnitus. Afterward, the tinnitus was and is still completely gone which is really nice. I will mentioned that approximately five months after getting my CI, I did have a short spell with it. I will never forget that as it woke me up from a deep sleep. As best as I can figure out, it might have been due to the deep healing going on internally.

Ron.

I had tinnitus prior to getting an implant and I find the implant has reduced the tinnitus. I still get tinnitus but it is much milder. I also found that in the early days of adjusting to the implant my tinnitus was worse but that quickly went away. I think it was the nerves just going WHOA!!!! Good Luck with you activation.

Yeap,
I have tinnitus for a while after the operation and it when away.

Thanks everyone. I'm still experiencing it a little each day. But it's not as bad as it was that one night last week. Man, I had never had it that bad before. I've had it happen from time to time in my life but it usually just lasted a few minutes and just went away. I think just about everyone says "My ear is ringing" a few times in their life's. I wouldn't say it happened enough to be considered a real issue. But it was pretty bad that one night so I wanted to come here and see if it's something that's common or if I should worry about it. If it gets worse I'll mention it on my activation day on the 22.

Thanks again.

Ron
