The type of hearing loss that I have (nerve erosion), is caused by BOTH parents carrying the recessive gene. If only one parent carries the gene, it would not be expressed. If this is also the case with your loss, then it means your father also carries the recessive gene, it just does not cause him to have a hearing loss.


It's possible that your sister's mother also carries the recessive gene, just like your own mother. The odds that your father mated with two women who both carried the recessive gene for hearing loss are fairly slim, as genetic hearing loss is quite rare, but it's not unheard of.
