Well there's really not enough information to come to any conclusions here.  You don't say anything about your half sister's mom, you assume you got your loss from your mom because your mom wore aids.  You state that no one on your father's side has a loss, which is pretty irrelevant.  No one on either my mother or father's side has a loss, neither of my parents have a loss, none of my siblings have a loss, but here I sit with a progressive profound loss. The only way to probably get to the bottom of this would be through genetic testing.  But how important is it for you to really know.  The only reason at this point that I can think of would be to find out what is causing your loss, and whether the gene can be been passed on to your children. Even then there is no guarantee that your children would suffer a similar loss.
