This past Saturday I went to a cookout at my second cousin's house(We all call his uncle because he is close to my father's age). The weird part is that my younger half sister came & while we were catching up she state she was in the early stages of nerve loss like myself(She is my half sister by my father). This is strange because my hearing loss is hereditary and I always assumed it came from my mother's side of my family(She wore a hearing aid when she was younger & hated it and hated to talk about her hearing loss), but now my half sister by my father is show the early signs if the same condition(By the way we are 8 years apart & no one on my father's side of the family has ever shown any signs of hearing loss so far but her). So all this has me very confused(Any insight anyone has would be helpful).

Well there's really not enough information to come to any conclusions here. You don't say anything about your half sister's mom, you assume you got your loss from your mom because your mom wore aids. You state that no one on your father's side has a loss, which is pretty irrelevant. No one on either my mother or father's side has a loss, neither of my parents have a loss, none of my siblings have a loss, but here I sit with a progressive profound loss. The only way to probably get to the bottom of this would be through genetic testing. But how important is it for you to really know. The only reason at this point that I can think of would be to find out what is causing your loss, and whether the gene can be been passed on to your children. Even then there is no guarantee that your children would suffer a similar loss.

There is no evidence

There is no evidence of hearing loss on my sister's mother's side of her family i have spent a fair amount of time around them. I was asked by my EMT to try and gather as much information as possible before I see her again next year. she predicts since my loss is progressive I will be deaf in 10 to 15 years(but further information will help her narrow down the time frame more accurately).

A genetic test may tell you something but in the end you must deal with what you actually have as determined by Hearing tests given to you. I suppose knowing exactly which side of your family has the "hearing loss genes" won't really help you.In reality I know which side of my family-father-has that genes. I have already "passed" it on to my oldest son but not my youngest son-as of now.Seems to be the male side-so far.
In the end one must your "genetic heritage" and go on from there.

The type of hearing loss that I have (nerve erosion), is caused by BOTH parents carrying the recessive gene. If only one parent carries the gene, it would not be expressed. If this is also the case with your loss, then it means your father also carries the recessive gene, it just does not cause him to have a hearing loss.

It's possible that your sister's mother also carries the recessive gene, just like your own mother. The odds that your father mated with two women who both carried the recessive gene for hearing loss are fairly slim, as genetic hearing loss is quite rare, but it's not unheard of.
