The future? Fully implantable hearing aids??

No thanks, it's not for me. I prefer stem cells!!! (If I hear good news about stem cells, I will be first person to get it..)

I thrice Botts....

And while hiding your deafness may seems to be a good thing, it kinda goes into a different realm of discrimination if people don't know you have a hearing loss. That's what I am worried about the people that get these...

Today's MEI isn't suitable for more than a moderate loss. Besides those who are severe-profoundly deaf would get the most benefit from a powerful external HA or CI or just wait a short time for stem cells, unless you want to be today's pioneer.

I'm not at all interested for my daughter, but I found the participation criteria a bit... odd.

Inclusion Criteria - Participants in the study must be at least 18 years of age, be in good health and meet the following criteria:

* Have normal middle ear bones
* Have moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss
* Currently using a hearing aid in the intended implant ear
* Speak English

It doesn't say directly so, but it seems they are excluding ASL users.

:hmm:

My audi is offering the kind of HAs that she places in your ears for something like 6 weeks. Supposedly, you can shower with them in. I like to be able to take my HAs off and I don't care if people can see my HAs. In fact, I wish people would notice them more and face me when they speak. I guess that there's a demand for these kind of HAs though. Looks like the audi would make more $$$ off of them. More office visits.

I agree. it should be included with ASL users, no matter what.
