Texas Board of Ed votes to pull Hillary Clinton and Helen Keller from social studies curriculum

I've heard about this since I live in Texas. I'm neither democrat or republican. I don't agree with Hillary Clinton's views nor Helen Keller's views. I admire HK for overcoming her challenges. My dad had plenty of stories as a diplomat during the Bill Clinton adminstration, but I can't discuss it online for security reasons. In my opinion, they should be remained in the curriculism. In Texas, Teachers CAN still teach Hillary Clinton and Helen Keller lessons. It simply is no longer required.

Robert E. Lee probably would be disappointed if he knew his cousin, Helen Keller is removed from the curriculum. However, Robert E. Lee and HK don’t share the same political views. HK was a member of the socialist party. Yep, she was a Marxist.
 
It sounds like now they're saying Evangelist Billy Graham is now required in the curriculum... ?!!

I think she could describe it, but not sure if she actually remembered what the colors were when she was very young. I have no idea how much her sight can see. Since the news broke out, I got my head chewed off on other forum that I mentioned many unpopular things regarding Helen Keller's views like um, eugenics. It's interesting to see people's reactions when they find out the truth about her views. Told them to read her writings.

As far as eugenics go.... I think that was a rather um... "popular" movement to get behind in her time period and likely was not necessarily looked down on or considered "horrible" like it is today. I wouldn't chew out other people for pointing it out but I'm not going to base everything on just one facet of her life... Every historical figure I am sure has something bad or a skeleton or two in their closet... doesn't take away from their contributions to history... unless that person had more bad than good in their life...

Exactly. The more you know etcetera.
It just seems that allowing a toddler to feel inside a lion's mouth doesn't ring true, especially at her time period.

I guess like being pro abortion is today. One day I hope people will be more enlightened and realise foetus's have rights and feelings too.
 
As far as Helen Keller goes I like her. It's not her fault their was so much hype about her. One thing nobody seems to pick up on is she was using tactile signs BEFORE Anne Sullivan came to teach her and two Black servants were using signs to communicate with her. Maybe their contributions to her education would have been better known if they had been white?
