JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —
A 14-year-old boy was nowhere to be found when officers discovered his mother's body in her Fort Caroline home, authorities said.
Residents told Action News that the body was found around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in a Monument Ridge Drive home. The teen and the family's Volvo were missing, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
Mitchell Daughtry was found safe with his mother's car in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, near Miami.
An official from Sunny Isle Beach Police said JSO was pinging the teen's cellphone and sent a "be on the lookout" alert for the Volvo.
Mitchell was found safe and alone in a Publix parking lot, SIPD said.
Officials said Mitchell was placed under the Baker Act after comments that he made to police during questioning. He was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation because of what he told officers when he was questioned.Neighbors told Action News that the woman found in the home was Pamela Daughtry. However, police have not confirmed her identity and Mitchell has not been named a suspect.
