Teaching ASL to a two-year old

My two-year old nephew has a speech delay, which is affecting his speech clarity. My mother told me that his mother (my older sister) said my nephew does get frustrated because he cannot communicate well yet. I decided to teach him ASL (well, just the tiny bit I know). Do you have any suggestions for me?
 
DVD series "Signing Time" excellent for deaf and hearing kids. We use them with Little G. Good luck.

I have that entire series on dvd! :dizzy: :eek2: He LOVES the dvds. :kiss: :dance2:

I also have flashcards that I brought at the local Barnes & Nobles. He had his first "official" lesson yesterday when I babysitted him.
 
Wow! This thread was right on time. Lilly is 2 1/2 years old and has a CI. My wife and I have always planned to teach her ASL after she had a good grasp on speaking. Well, she has a good enough grasp to let us know what she wants verbally. The problem is that we have noticed when we take off her CI in the evening, she gets frustrated alot because she cannot communicate well enough. My wife and I discussed it this evening and decided to look into ways of teaching basic sign for her and us. Sign time was just the product we were looking for. After checking out the webpage...... vol. 1 will be arriving in 3-5 days! Time for the family to start learning a second language!
 
Lillys dad. Good for you and you are very positive person i have see in here this AD about both world which that your daughter can go on both world when she is older that wonderful positive of you do what best for your daughter, And there to support your daughter all the way. I am fully deaf myself since birth .. i does go on both world it doesn't bother me at all .. if i get bit frustrate i just simple quick to write things down when some hearing people doesn't understand me, and dont give up just show them that we can communicate by writing so they will know how to communicate by writing then eventaully (sp) they will slow start to getting understanding without writing and watch lipreadings or hand sign use by gesture as mime or just simple accidently use signs to them ha .. then they will reaction realise that it can be good communicate from there that what i do it many times and i love my life and i am very lucky really ... all my work mates does get on very good with me they got all can use BSL signers as i does teach them 2 hours each week at work .. they love it .. also i does use lipreadings too either ..
I am sure your daughter will be all the well for her future .. you and your wife just be there for her whenever she need .. Smile sorry for me keep on :blah: lol hope it does make sense to you. :fingersx:
 
Thank you! I got the dvd today and watched it. I learned alot in a very short time. It reminds me alot of a sesame street for ASL. Its pretty neat!
 
Welcome! Glad you are the keen to learn lots , good!! ha, i does to remember watch the sesame street when i was young, but sadly there were no subtitles on it during that time . I just love watch their's act movements, Wonder does it still on in USA tv show ?.. It very similar as The Muppets Show... Have a nice day

Yes, Sesame street is still on the air. It has changed a bit to stay current, but it has the same basic content.
 
:dance2: MY DAUGHTER IS BRILLIANT!!!! Just days after introducing her to ASL ( other than the few words we already used) She signed to me today!!!!!!
I got home from picking her up from daycare and verbally asked her if she wanted a snack. She responded by saying "cracker, fish" while she gestured both words!!!!!!! SHe wanted those little goldfish crackers and thats how she told me!!!!
