Hi I am a teacher, studying to be a guidance counselor. If you have any gripes or praises about your experience with public school I would love to hear them so I can make sure I do or don't do the same thing. I am hoping to learn from you all so I can make a difference.

The guidance counselor at the elementary school where my kids were for 2 years was fantastic. She really took the time to get to know all 800 of the students. She would take the time to sit and have lunch with a different group of kids each day.

She really worked hard with the special needs kids and cheered others on when they needed it. She was just fantastic.

The guidance counselor in the middle school we didn't have much interaction with before I withdrew the kids, but she was very helpful when I needed it after my mother wrecked my van. My son and mother are very attached to on another and he would have freaked out, but she was very helpful. He was 12 at the time. She was also very helpful when it came to my daughter who has special needs. She took daughter out of class, and told her what happened and let my daughter call me at work and my mother at home to make sure we were all right. My mother had just dropped the kids off at school and on her way home (3 miles away) she had a tire blow out and the van rolled 3 times. Totaled the van, but no injuries to my mother.

Just the fact that they were so caring and took the time with the different individualities of my kids makes them special people for me. Even now that I no longer live in the same state and I home school my children, I still keep in touch with both guidance counselors.
