Went there last Friday to get my new 2016 sticker for my car...to find it was closed.......so got up very early this AM to get it today or pay late charges...

The people were all lined up outside...when I got in and got my ticket #, I told the lady at the desk I was deaf....she just nodded....

Sat down with all these people and lucky I found a seat...noticed the TV screens were not up and running....(in order for me to know when my # was called)....After about 15 minutes, I told the Lady sitting next to me...if she would let me know when my number was called....she said OK...but her # was called before mine...

So I wrote down the problem and gave it to one of the ladies that were working there....The Deaf and HOH having no way to know when their #'s were called....She just shrugged....

So I asked to see the Supervisor...(and trying to keep my temper in check)...she came out and wrote down..."We are sorry for your inconvenience....just go over to number #12 and they will service you"....

:hmm:

Pissed off?...Yes I was...and by the time I left, the TV screens were still not on....

Next year, I'll definitely go online....

RR, paying for car registration at a tax collector's office?

You mean the little sticker that you put on your car plate , that is mailed to us in my state. I hate it when the numbers being called off is no showing up the little box and will made it very clear that I am hoh too.

Well...was on the phone for a good 35 minutes making a "complaint". Branch Manager said she had "never had a call from a Deaf person before"....well, she got one today!....and told her I would be back in this evening to see if those TV's were up...and if not, Id file a formal complaint against that office....

They make no accommodations whatsoever for the Deaf or HOH...even the elderly had to stand since there were not that many chairs....

My good deed for today?....:giggle:...but still pissed off at what happened this AM...no need for that....

Yeah...got my new 2016 little sticker today....almost slipped my mind....

I was asking because I thought it unusual that you pay that kind of fee to the tax collector. Here in CA and I assumed most all States pay car fees to their Depts of Motor Vehicles and real estate taxes to the tax collector......anyway, hope they make better accommodations for ya in the near future....

In SC, we get our tags from DMV but we pay our personal property taxes at the tax office. We have to pay the tax prior to renewing the tags.

Most of our DMV business is conducted on line.

I think about 5 states that assess property taxes on vehicles, that is called "Use Tax". Tax laws varies from state to state, and my state(New York) don't have these kind of taxes, only real estate for property taxes. The newer car, the higher taxes levied, they use KBB to determine car value and assess taxes on them.

I know Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, not sure which other that has annual taxes on vehicles.

Yes, the tax amount depends on the value of the vehicle (boats and campers, too). There is a maximum fee (ceiling), and the amount can be reduced for high-mileage vehicles. We pay annual personal property taxes on our Jeeps, van, trike and pop-up camper.

I live in a small town, we do all business at the same window at the Town Hall, such as real estate taxes, register new auto, re register auto, etc.etc. There are seldom lines there.

We don't renew drivers license there, that's where we have the lines and wait of hours. We have to drive to a city to do that, hate it, ugh! I've never seen the light up number thingy not working 'though.

We pay an excise tax on our car in Ma. and I get bill in the mail that can buy on line or in person at city hall or by snail mail I pay in person at tax collection office and there is never more than 3 people there at time .

Our tax office is the same--no lines.
