"There is an anti-Christian bias in this country, and it is more on display at Christmas season than any other time." – Bill O'Reilly, The O'Reilly Factor, Fox News Channel – (Speaking about the decision of Target and other stores to ban the use of "Merry Christmas" in their stores and advertising.)

On October 7, 2004. We brought to your attention that Target was banning the Salvation Army's kettles from the front of their stores. Now we've learned Target is also banning the use of "Merry Christmas" from their in-store promotions and from their advertising in papers, TV, etc.

Your efforts are having an impact. USA Today (11/16/05) announced that "Target alarmed investors by saying projected sales at stores open a year in November would miss the estimated 4% to 6% growth. Shares of Target fell $4.13 to $54.30." (A 7% drop.)

Target's ban of the Salvation Army and "Merry Christmas" expresses the same attitude toward Christianity as that held by Michael Newdow, who wants to ban "In God We Trust" from our currency and "under God" from our Pledge of Allegiance.

AFA is asking individuals to boycott Target during the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend—the busiest shopping weekend of the year. Please share this request to boycott Target on that weekend with friends, family and members of your church and Sunday school class.

Please sign the petition to Target. This petition will also be sent to other major chains banning the use of "Merry Christmas" including Costco, BJ's, Wal-Mart, Sears/K-Mart and Kohl's. It is basically too late to change their policies this year, but we can change it for next year. Last year we called for a boycott of Federated Stores because they banned "Merry Christmas." This year they are using "Merry Christmas!"
A successful boycott of Target will send a message to every company!

This is your opportunity to make your voice heard. Please act today and then forward this to friends and family.

----
It's happening again last year, Target banned the Salvation Army kettles.. and now this.. Target is banning the "Merry Christmas" Message across the countries in their stores..

*sigh*...

So please do sign petition!!.. here the link...

Thanks!!!!

Target Getting the Message - Stock Drops 7%

I aint gonna sign this. I won't apologise for my stand on this, but Target is a cool store and I will continue shopping at Target. Target is way much better than Walfart. All of the stores have issues that people want to whine about, and I am fed up with it.

The workers of Salvation Army is a disgrace, period. Especially when they make quick bucks per hour just for standing next to a kettle.

http://www.detnews.com/2005/metro/0511/12/B01-379104.htm

Why are people getting paid to do charity? Greed which doesn't represents Christmas at all. Salvation Army is desperately seeking for volunteers, but people has seem to forget about the needs of the poor and unfortunate.

Target is a place of business, not charity nor religion. You have to remember that, and they have the right to prevent SOLICITATION!

Many big retailers don't allow ANY kind of solicitation including the charity organizations because it doesn't want any competition and to make more money.

Again, greed.

Seriously, what's the big deal with people not being wished a Merry Christmas?

It's not the end of the world. People... focus on the IMPORTANT aspects of the world and your life, not the retailers. There's millions of starving children and many are dying in wars all over the world... yet y'all are crying over not being wished a Merry Christmas.

God would be ashamed of people making such a big fuss over the lack of a greeting when there's much more important sacrifices and deeds to commit all over the world.

Excellent points. I know if I had a store, I wouldn't want charities standing in my door begging for money.

Plus, if people are so concerned about the poor, they can be PROACTIVE and stop complaining, and CONTRIBUTE money to organisations on their own. There are plenty of websites online where people can contribute.

you don't know anything about Marketing.

Walmart will use this to attract more people to go
to their stores.

It is like Walmart and Target are running a presidential race...

Walmart is like Republican Conservative and Target is like Democrat Liberals.

And Christians will go for Walmart. :D

Ah, bon? I'm sure you don't know anything about marketing yourself as well.
Walfart has many policy that many people complain against about. All stores have their own problems. If we boycotted all of the stores because of some stupid petitions, then we would have nowhere to shop. :sure:

I must concur with both Banjo and Kootchie because to help people, it is supposed to be year-round, not just Christmas time.

Why did DeafDyke have to send me a link to this thead?

Has anyone considered that maybe they're not attempting to discriminate against Christians, but to not discrimnate against people who aren't Christians. Don't give me this "Christians are persectued in this country BS." Your government is ran by a man who professes to be a born again Christian and a Congress composed of mostly wealthy, white male Protestants.

Because I'm evil?
This ISN"T about being "anti-Christian."....They are simply trying to appeal to a much broader demographic. Not every person who shops in their stores is Christian, they have Muslim,Pagan, Jewish, Buddist, Shinto, and Church of the Flying Spagetti Monster customers too! They are simply trying to be ALL inclusive and make sure that EVERYONE is included. I mean, how would YOU like it if you lived in a country where you were slapped in the face EVERY SINGLE DAY by the fact that you didn't practice the religion of the majority?

There are poor children. Their parents can't afford Christmas gifts.
Target is sending this message....
"Shop here, buy toys for your kids, but don't donate, ignore poor children"
Banning Salvation Army? Why? They didn't offend anyone, they
dressed up in Santa Claus Suit, held a bucket, rang bells, and said ho ho ho.

You can use the energy you used to whine by doing something positive such as donating to an organisation. Oh wait, I bet you didn't want to do that in the first place but to whine anyway.

I like Target store alot more than Wal Mart. Oh gosh, I hate Wal Mart, the clothes and stuffs are such junk. I constantly shop at the target store.

Interesting, I saw some banner "Happy Holiday" at US Army caserne. I can't remember the word "Merry Christmas". I will check again properly next week or 2 weeks time...

I was told that they rather to put "Happy Holiday" than "Merry Christmas" because of show their respect on people's beliefs. No, it's not just Christian but JW and other beliefs, too.

I believe that Target's intention were to stay religious neutral! Mixing religious and business is bad bad bad because this would favor specific religious and unfavors others which is really unfair and can cause problem. So, I am sure Target don't want to get caught in middle.

If I were the owner of major business I would make sure that religious STAYS AWAY from my business so that everybody gets fair share of doing business with me. This does NOT mean that I oppose to any religious nor support any neither.

Finally there is WAY WAY WAY too many charity outlets that one can access and give away their money! Salvatory army has their own branch, whats wrong with that? Even can donate though website, whats wrong with them? There are too many organization anyone could donate though many different ways, either by place, over phone, over the world wide web, etc... So at least cut that complaining craps will ya?

That's why America citiziens have to respect any religious culture. At any United States federal government, we only greet, "Happy Holidays." in order to protect the United States Constitution.

DieHardBiker65, you got the right message....

Hey Lieblling, What's up with that?
Walmart fails to ban office romance
Wal-Mart has lost a court appeal to try to legally ban its employees in Germany from having office romances.
The regional industrial tribunal in Dusseldorf upheld an earlier verdict by the local Wuppertal industrial tribunal that the company's "ethics rules" were in breach of German law

I still shop at Target.

Hello Ms P.,
You still shop Wal-Mart for illegal workers. I am sorry that you still have to look for any good pay job. Wal-Mart does not need you....
125 Illegal Workers Found at Wal-Mart Site Do Christians like you still shop at Wal-Mart? But Wal-Mart broke one of the Ten Commandments. Are you gonna to shop at Wal-Mart?

SCRANTON, Pa. - An immigration raid at a Wal-Mart distribution center under construction led to the arrests of 125 illegal workers, all of whom will be deported, federal officials said Friday.

The workers from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico were detained Thursday at the construction site in eastern Pennsylvania, according to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Some of the 125 used fake documents to obtain employment with subcontractors, officials said.

The arrests came after search warrants were executed for six companies at the site outside Pottsville, about 80 miles northwest of Philadelphia.

"Employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens, and those who utilize false documents to gain employment, face significant criminal and administrative charges," John Kelleghan, acting special agent-in-charge for ICE in Pennsylvania, said in a statement.

Agents obtained the search warrants after learning that 10 workers employed by Destin Drywall & Paint were using Social Security numbers that did not match their names. Another three used Social Security numbers that were never issued by the government, according to an affidavit unsealed Friday at U.S. District Court in Scranton.

Houston-based Destin has worked on Wal-Mart projects around the country, according to office manager Cindy Wyman. She said the company verifies that employees are permitted to work in the United States.

"As far as I know, their Social Security numbers are good," Wyman said of the Pennsylvania workers.

A Wal-Mart spokesman has said the detained workers were not employed by Wal-Mart but by the subcontractors. Wal-Mart's contracts with the companies require that they follow local, state and federal employment laws, the company said.

The Pennsylvania job site remains shut down, Wal-Mart spokesman Marty Heires said Friday. He did not know when construction would resume.

Last month, Wal-Mart shut down work on seven stores under construction in North Dakota to check for illegal aliens after two illegal immigrants working on Wal-Mart projects in Bismarck were charged with molesting two 13-year-old girls. Charges against one of the suspects were dropped after authorities found out he was a juvenile.

In 2003, a raid of 60 Wal-Mart stores in 21 states led to the arrests of 245 illegal workers. An affidavit claimed a pair of senior Wal-Mart executives knew cleaning contractors were hiring illegal immigrants. The retailer agreed to pay $11 million in March to settle the case but denied senior executives knew of the hirings.

It's not going to stop me from shopping at Target either, Target it alot better than Walmart anyhow....

Target's not the only company to ban the Salvation Army kettles....I KNOW I read somewhere that a lot of companies are not allowing them.
Second of all, maybe they feel that they disagree with SA policies.....Remmy a few years ago when that Queer as a Three Dollar Bill campaign was going on? (that was WICKED cool BTW.....I was so proud when I read in the paper about the impact that my activism had!)
Maybe Target is more interested in promoting religion neutral charities....and that doesn't mean they are anti-Christian....just means that they may dislike the prolethisizing that some religious charities promote.
I really do think that in terms of public discourse that they should take a Unitarian style view of religion, and try to be ALL inclusive of ALL faiths, in terms of marketening and stuff like that.
They aren't ultra PCtizing it....it's not like they're doing " Happy Winter Celebration".....they're just doing " Happy HolidayS"......Many other religions have winter solistice time holidays. Kwanazza, Channakah, Diwali, Winter Solitisce etc...

Well, That's their place of business, If they don't want those Salvation Army standing by their doorway, That's their business. Sometimes those Salvation Army annoyed me because every time I shop at a store, they are always there wanting more money when you already donated some.

I will still shop at Target and Walmart.

and about banning "Merry Christmas" I think they are respecting each person who have different religion. I see nothing wrong with that. It bugs me when the world thinks about themselves instead of others.
