Take this child

Give her wings
to hear
the sound of my smile

Give her wings
to hear
the radiance of my eyes

Never the same again
after today
Blessed
with an exceptional gift

To hear light
To see sound
gives wings to the soul

Lottes Mum, october 4th, 2004
to the surgeon operating on Lotte

This poem was written by my wife the evening before Lotte's operation.
Originally in Norwegian, we recently translated it into English and found it - again - a powerful poem.

I wish to share it with all if you.

Very well written and yet, quite powerful as you stated. Thanks for sharing with AD'ers. ;)

For a surgeon, receiving a poem like this just before the operation with in it soo many expectations and/or wishes, is sort of awkward.
But yes, he like it. I'm glad he didn't feel pressured :)

These kind of moments, the operation of a child, the birth of a child, death of a loved one etc, are very spiritual experiences, wether you believe or not. They create a search within yourself and sometimes one can find poems that are just waiting to come out.
My wife is very sensitive to this, and feels the words coming up. Important thing is to have pen and paper available.

Boy, I've got goosebumps! Very inspiring poem! Your wife ought to start putting her poems in a book and get them published!
