This is strange...When I tried placing my left processor on my right ear, it turned itself on (and *was* painful!). I did the same for the other processor and it also turned itself on. When the processor was on and I placed it on the opposite ear, it did not turn itself off. Hmmm... I do not suggest that you try this at home. LOL!

One more observation before I turn off the computer and leave for a friend's New Year's party. When I put my right processor on my left ear for the second time, I could barely hear anything. However, the processor works perfectly fine on my right ear.

For Freedom users, I suggest that you either look at the LCD screen for confirmation or mark one/both processors tactually.

Mismatching processors

One hint to avoid doing mismatching the processors -- put a little red dot of nail polish on your right processor. "R"ed is "R"ight.

I never play favorites with implant companies, but I believe the AB device does not allow you to mis-match the processors which would avoid this problem. Several families I know with young twins with bilateral implants who have chosen AB love this feature -- imagine *four* processors that could get mismatched on two heads and children too young to tell you the wrong one is on, and you get the idea

Oops, sorry

I just re-read your signature and noticed "deafblind" for the first time. So red isn't going to help you. But maybe some type of raised dot or rough sandpaper or velcro type stick-on would.

Sheri,

Your suggestion about the nail polish is a good one. While I can't see the color, I *could* feel a raised dot. I also like your idea of using velcro. Thanks for the suggestions! :)

You're correct about AB and I agree that it's an excellent feature -- especially for young children. From what I understand, Cochlear is currently working on designing the Freedom in such a way that it will not activate when it is placed on the opposite implant.

interesting. I didnt know about this as I dont have CI but good idea to have something just for right ear. yikes!

also heard that thing about the nail polish - but I'm really not sure if it really works - please let us know if you gonna try it
