It's interesting to think of how raccoons, skunks, rabbits, chipmunks, and squirrels survive the cold Chicago weather. I wonder what they do if there are no food to be found in snow.

Easy..... they fatten up in the fall, before it gets cold like it is now. That way they don't have to eat as much during the winter.

On the bold statements, they have knacks to find their own food and store them in their own nesting places so that they would not get starve. It is the same with bears that they need to fatten themselves up before hibernating for the Winter. In the Spring when the bear come out of their place like cave, they lose their weight and had to find food again. Most other animals had to nose into the ground or eating from the trees (barks, maybe). All animals found ways to survive in the Winter. It is not easy for all animals in the Winter as the deep freeze and snowy weather make it harder for them to survive. Winter is a very brutal and cruel winter for them. But some manage to survive while others did not make it. That is a cruel life in the Winter time. :(

When I was living in Canada (island), I fed the wild birds with bird seeds and gave some peanuts to the squirrels (they will store them or eat them no matter what they want to do with their food). Life was good for them. :D

They like to stay inside derek's car engine to keep themselves warm. When rats are hungry, they start to eat electronic wires, and they drink window washer as blue kool aid to them.

I remembered that either the squirrels or the chipmunks used to store their nuts inside the air vents for storage in my car on First Nation Reserve on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada. When I came down here in Santa Fe, New Mexico for my mother's memorial service and to visit my son and my sister including her children in 2006. I could not get any regular fan going for cool air. I signed and told my son that there was a problem with my air vent. He and I went to the Mechanic garage to find out if they could fix it for me.

Then later to my surprise, the whole acorn nuts fell out of the air vent from my car. That was a lot of nuts. Whoa. That was in August which meant that the animals were preparing to store them for the Winter. It took time for them to collect all of that stuff for food. Amazing. :cool2:
