Surgery on Thursday

Hello everyone...

I know I haven't posted in quite a while...

I'm getting the CI surgery in my left with Freedom this Thursday. I'm actually surprised on how quick I'm able to get the surgery (One week!?) after I saw the surgeon. I needed it as soon as possible since I start school in two weeks, and I don't want to be recovering while going to school, so i rather sooner the better.

Plus, I had to wait 2 months for my insurance. I had Medicare and they will only pay 80% of it. I found another insurance company that deals with Medicare patients, and they will pay 100% of the surgery! Awesome right? However, the insurance coverage didn't start until January 1st, plus I had to see my physician, get a referral, etc. due to new insurance. I saw my surgeon on Friday, and she will push into getting the surgery on Thursday.

I'm not quite out of the woods just yet. I have to do bloodwork and all that crap, MRI and Cat Scan all of them done today. Get my reports and send them to her ASAP. If they look good, then surgery will be set, but the person who sets up the surgery is going to really try to push for it as I cannot do it next Thursday due to prior engagements that I cannot change.

I'm not scared of the surgery at all...but looking at the pictures of the recent implanted (Harley or something?), is freaking me out just slightly. Looks like a half bra on your ear. LOL.

Regardless, I will be setting up a blog to talk about my journey that way my friends and family can be updated on my progress instead of telling them the same things over and over.

I'm ready to be a Borg.

Wow, it seems like so many people are getting implanted, but it's great to be hearing progress updates from people like you -- I look forward to hearing about it. I'm im a similar situation, being a student. I wanted to get the CI relatively soon, but didn't want it to disrupt studies or cause a lot of absences, so I scheduled mine on the Friday prior to spring break during which there'll be no school for a week. My pre-surgery appt. is Feb. 8, and surgery is Feb. 29. Sometimes I totally cannot believe I'm actually doing this.

Wow thats great that you are just flying through the process! You don't even have time to get nervous! :) I wish you the best of luck with your surgery and I will be looking forward to reading your blog...

Good luck with the surgery and keep us posted on how it goes! That is soo quick - maybe you got a cancelation perhaps?

GL and I wish you a speedy recovery. Wow, you were able to get surgery a week after your appointment. Lucky! I wish you the best of success with your CI.
 
Thanks everyone! I finished my MRI/Cat Scan and Blood work today. I'm all set to go!
R2D2 - Actually they pushed it for me because I start school on the 21st, and it just so happens that the surgeon did not have anything that day, which was rare for her. But it's pretty awesome. I do expect to have some strange sounds and all that, but in the end it will all be worth it.
