Supermodel Maggie Rizer Dog Dies on Airline.:(

These stories just solidify my belief that planes are dangerous for animals. If you see the way they toss the luggage, why would anyone allow their pets to fly? My sympathy to anyone that lost a pet this way - it never should have happened, but sadly airlines just don't care about animals.

I would think the compartment the dog was in may not have been properly maintained or used. Depressurization occurs at high altitudes, resulting in a lack of oxygen, plus, temps are pretty cold up there. Maintenance crews are beginning to show sloppiness in setting up the plane for flight. RIP Bea.

They've been sloppy for a long time and they can't figure out how to get it right yet; people should avoid traveling with their pets in this way. I trust no one but myself.

I love animals and hate it when I read news articles like that. The incompetence of these airlines is ridiculous. They give a full body search to children and the elderly and now this. This is one of the many reasons I no longer deal with airports. RIP Bea.

There's something fishy about what happened.

All the other dogs were fine, except this one?

Either all the dogs got hot, but this one reached its limit... and died? If that was the case, there's something wrong with the environmental controls there.

If there was indeed a fine environment for all the OTHER dogs, then this dog must have been isolated in a different environment causing it to overheat and die?

All breeds have different tolerance levels for heat. What will not have dire consequences for one, will for another. The airlines should monitor the area where pets are kept so that's it's comfortable and safe for the entire duration of the flight. Consulting with a vet and going by their precautionary guidelines, should be mandatory. This aside, why is no one looking in on how they're coping during the flight?

omg that's horrible! I was so afraid of this that when I chose my dog, I got a small one because I would be traveling with him by airplane every summer to overseas. This way, my dog stays with me in the cabin in a crate. My heart breaks for what that poor dog went through. There's no way I would put my dog in cargo, I don't trust the airlines.:(

If they can afford tickets, then I'm sure they can afford a dog camp to send their dog to while they go out of town. That would be safer than being crated in airplane.

I flew with my dogs 3,000 miles 2 times. I Took one of my dog to the west coast and another dog to the east coast. My dogs where lucky and I gave the airport handler a big tip. I think that helped a lot.
