Hello ADers! I was member of this forum for over two years already. I have seen many threads with polls come and go. There are some good threads with poll in there. BUT I do see many threads with polls that involves favortism, or in attempt to steering something into the owner's favor.
What we need to understand that these voting polls should ALWAYS remain neutral, and yes that means the owner or orignator of the thread need to remain neutral at all the times and that it is their responsiblity to monitor his or her thread for any offensive or unwanted remarks from members and report accordly.
So my tips for good thread with voting booth...
Number one important rule... remain NEUTRAL, that means refrain your own personal opinion on your thread contains poll. So, if you want to express your opinion, do it ELSEWHERE! For example, I have created my own thread with poll about the avatar rating... I expressed my opinion in other thread about this instead of my own thread. That way, I won't be able to start the flaming war in my own thread. Once I start this, it is alot difficult to stop that.
Second rule, when making choices for members to vote, ALWAYS include every possible choices. This forums allows up to 20 choices.
third rule, applies to rule number two... NEVER give suggestive remarks on one area of choice. For example
Bad one:
YES: I believe this choice preserve my beliefs
NO: Are you outta of your mind?
Good one
Yes: This choice preserves members rights to protect ourselves from being harmed
No: This choices preserves members freedom of speech
You see, the bad one encourages members to vote yes more than no. WHILE the good one don't give any suggestion which is better, but rather give person input which sides are suitable for them to decide without steering this person to vote which one.
Final one! When you set the voting poll, the best safeguard yourself from people starting flame/bashing wars, thinking your doing favortism, or manipulate your voting booth BY set it to anonymous (Nobody knows who votes what) rather than click the one that lets everybody sees who votes what. If you show members that you can't do anything with your voting booth, members WILL respect your booth.
Following the above rules and good common sense, you shouldn't have problem with your own thread, and ofc sometimes members can be out of control, and it is your job to report to Moderators and get the act together WITHOUT getting involved... no matter if you agree to that person who started the trouble, even your own friends or relatives! So, always always always remain neutral.
