All sides agree that the unemployment rate among people with disabilities is troubling. Just over 19 percent of disabled people work — compared with 68 percent of all Americans 16 and older, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Oh wow, that's pathetic and in my state, there are many deaf people on SSI/SSDI, also some deaf people from my old school, questioned about need to find a job because they couldn't find a job and VR isn't willing to help. I feel bad about them and the performance of VR is depending on local like VR isn't good in North Alabama but fairly good in East Alabama. I told deaf people to try career center and see if they willing to help to find a job, also I seriously encouraging them to work at minimum wage job to build the experience and resume before they can be laddered to better job. I noticed many of them have poor writing in English because our deaf school wasn't good when I was student and anyone receive occupational diploma are likely to be unemployed for long time and after those problem, deaf school decided to change the criteria and tightening the standard to ensure that all students know how to writing in English before they graduate.
I hate to live on welfare and prefer to get a job, so that why I'm in college right now.
