Why do you jailbreak your iPhones? Doesn't that render it useless once Apple finds out you have violated the terms of the contract and agreements?

I have no desire to jailbreak an iPhone, but I was just wondering why people do this and seem to take pride in it?

I can restore iPhone program before go to service. Why? I need FaceTime over 3G than WiFi only under AT&T and free WiFI hotspots than AT&T WiFi hotspots charge at $20/mo. AT&T is bullshit.

They have no reason to bullsh*t at AT&T.

Yesterday, I talked crew from Sprint Relay Store at Deaf Event in Tom River, NJ. They told me that Sprint's hotspots add cost $29 per mo.

How do you jailbreak a phone?

I will be getting a new phone soon and one of the ones I'm considering is the iphone. I want to be able to surf the internet on it, I can do that now with my blackberry but it's so slow, and so tiny. Is the iphone that much better? Can it run javascripts?

Alleycat.... I never install jailbreak on my original iphone. Soon, I will expect that my wife will get iphone 4 or other model.

I do not think I would jailbreak mine either. I was just curious as to how it's done. I don't even have a clue :)

Jailbreak is necessary. for example you desire to tether your iPhone 3/4G to laptop as wireless modem that Apple disapprove and refuse to add apps to iTune.

Yes, Javascript is included in the iPhone as part of the MobileSafari browser but it don't support Adobe Flash. Browser feed is faster than BB.

Thanks for the info -- does any phone out there support Flash?

On another note, a lot of people rave about the Droid. Anybody have any comments (positive or negative) about the Droid or how it compares to the iphone? There's so many phones out there it feels overwhelming to pick one.

You can download free PDAnet that it lets you tether your computer to your mobile's Internet connection using your USB cable. No need to pay Sprint's hotspots charge.

Need Android 2.2 (Froyo) firmware that can support Flash in some Android device. Evo 4G has this firmware now since few days to be updated but Samsung Epic 4G not yet to be updated it.

Welcome to the smartphone world. iPhone 4 is the best phone I have ever owned, however I am not jailbreaking my phone at all, just there is risks invovled, it can be anything, I am not going to list it, the people who jailbroke it, knows it but there is other way to have a reason to jailbreak it.

There are similar phones which are in competition like, Samsung Galaxy S, Driod phone, and these so called andriod phones.
The internet feed in the iphone 4 is heaps fast, than the BB, and more faster when you connect your home WiFi, that's an extra bonus and saves your $$$ while you're out of range etc.

Good luck to you and Dixie.

There are many reason to jail break it iPhone. I Jailbreak it on 3G, 3GS, and now iPhone 4 and all of those iPhone belong to the company. They don't care since we are part of developer for mobile applications. Now, come up with this.. if you contract ATT iPhone for 2 years, you will have more chance to have your iPhone get broken by dropping it, get wet, dog ate it, cat piss on it within two years. For me as a manager if IT, I have few, but lot for this size of the company keep losing it, or dropping it with in 6 months (that including the director of the company which he broke it or lose it for 4 times within 6 months). So, why worry about jail breaking it? Jail breaking is more of safe to use it than damaging the iphone... You know what I mean?

Apple make it too limited (ironically they say that they have 65,000 or more applications available) and they think the app sucking up too much battery power or security risk or too XXX rated or whatever. There are many applications that we want is not listed in the 65,000 apps!!! You know? Shrugged.

Thanks for your responses, I was just curious as to why.

I will hopefully be purchasing an iPhone 4 sometime in the next 3-4 months depending upon my budget and bills. I hope the iPhone 4 works out well for me.

As said before I would like a phone that would allow me to sync it with my hotmail account as well as my student email at Uni. I just spoke with an IT person at my Uni via facebook. Turns out I can receive emails from my student account but all outgoing mail will have be based on my phone companies SMTP address, so my outgoing mail from the phone would be like me@att.com or something like that. That is fine just as so long as I am able to utilize it.

You can set up sync with gmail. I have it set up on my phone and I'm with AT&T. I can sync my contacts between my phone and on the desktop computer via gmail emails and contacts...even can do calendar. It works pretty good and it's free.

It automatically receives and sends email as well as contacts without having to do it manually. It also saves battery life that way.

download a jailbreak program of your choice, connect it your iphone, install it, and diddly-doodly for like 15 min or so. that's it.

but it can take as long as 3-6 hours for noobies

Why do you jailbreak your iPhones?
lol i dunno ¯\(°_o)/¯ since my BB can do the job that iPhone can't unless you jailbreak it.

Doesn't that render it useless once Apple finds out you have violated the terms of the contract and agreements?
yes and no. it is a reversible process. if not - you're fucked and you're an idiot :)
