My library has about maybee 3 asl books. I think it's ridiculous for the size of the library. I requested a book and it came in when i was on vaca and so they sent it to the next person! And now there is a 23 person wait for it:( I got Some tho like signing for dummies and a dvd it's for kids..but thats ok lol asl is asl...

Try the squeaky wheel routine, Lilitalia. You and your friends should send the llibrary e-mails asking for more ASL texts.

For example: It may have been coincidence, but after I asked people here at AD to send e-mail to American Movie Channel about their hit-and-miss closed captioning, within six weeks all movies were closed captioned instead of just a few.

As to libraries, when I moved to Albany, its city library had one ASL text and one SEE text, neither very up-to-date. I asked the librarian, and she told me that there must not be many deaf patrons (library terminology for customers).

I started a modest e-mail campaign based on the idea that ASL books aren't only for deaf patrons, just like dictionaries aren't only for good spellers. We have a dozen sign books now, some on display.

wow i should give that a try! It's not very fair that they don't have up-to date stuff..the book and dvd i got are not up-to-date either. but we shall see how that goes!thanks
