Hi! My name is Rhonda Carmona. I am a student at MSJC in California. I'm doing research for my Deaf Culture & Community course. I am looking to get opinions from various members of the Deaf community (i.e. Deaf persons who went to Deaf school, Deaf persons who were raised in a mainstream school, Deaf or HOH persons who do not know sign lnaguage, & Deaf or HOH persons who started out at a deaf school but were transitioned to a mainstream school or vice versa) to complete a research paper on the various opinions & experiences of members of the Deaf ommunity. If you are willing to answer a few questions, I would appreciate any assistance you might be willing to provide.
1. Do your parents accept you as a Deaf/HOH person? Why/why not?
2. What are some of the stereotypes about Deaf culture you have personally encountered?
3. What limitations do you feel that the hearing society put on the Deaf/HOH?
4. Do you consider yourself a member of the Deaf culture? Why/why not?
5. Describe your earliest memory of an encounter with a hearing person other than a family member. How would you describe the ability to communicate effectively at that time.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message and consideration in helping with this research paper.
