Student gets detention for sharing chicken burrito

Detention is too much. A staff member could have simply explained to the student the reason for the rule, and said, "Don't do it again."

For reals! I love how they say the rule is because some kids have allergies and what not, but seriously, a 13 year old neurotypical child would know his allergies and has probably had that exact burrito before but possibly didn't have money in his lunch account to get it that ...part of me wonders if that may be the real reason the school was quick to correct...

Just thought of something. There are still some schools that are K-8 all in one building. So . . . could they be wanting to use the same rules for all the kids regardless of which class they are in? If so, it does result in the older ones having to put up with restrictions that only really make sense for the youngest.

I researched the school a little bit, it's a K-8. It's in a small town, a very small school with only 345 students. The school also has a very high percentage of low-income families which means the majority of the students are free/reduce lunch...schools nowadays seem to be sticklers when it comes to these things...when I was in elementary school (early-mid 90s) no one gave a cr*p if children shared food. If a kid a had an allergy, they would just say "no thank you"...in Jr. High (6-8) they cared even less who ate what as long as someone paid for it...

Its sad that how American school teaches fears and mistrust. Welcome to 21st century America, no more hey days of old America spirit.

This will go on the student school record too , that he got 'detention' and I wonder if the school will tell why or just put down he got 'detention'. All b/c he was trying to be nice to a classmate. Kids are always being told to be nice to other kids in school and he get punishment forgoing this .
