hi everyone,

i'm experiencing a strange sensation in my right ear where it feels congested and as if it wants to pop. however, if i blow my nose, nothing happens. my voice also sounds different in my right ci compared to my left. do any of you have some ideas as to what might be going on? i still have a cold with congestion, so i'm wondering if that could have something to do with how i feel? unfortunately, i can't see an ent because of where i am at the present, so that will have to wait until a later date.

I find that having a cold can effect the performance of the CI until it is over like a regular ear.

It's probably due that you have a cold, the congestion affects most places, in the Inner ear, the middle ear also it shares with throat (eustachian tube), sinus. I wouldn't worry unless it is hurts painfully.

Hope you feel better soon.

thank you john and charlotte. no, i'm not in any pain. it's just the congested feeling that is bothering me. i feel like i want to pop my right ear, but can't. today i developed a dry cough that is bothering me too, but i don't think that has anything to do with my ears.

Lisa, that feeling is quite common with some head colds. I have felt that feeling many times. Most of the time it was just your standard head cold, other times, there was fluid behind the eardrum. If that were the case, an OTC antihistamine should help a lot. Something like benadryl or sudafed. It will pass once the cold does.

thanks, et. i'm scheduled to have a ct scan done of both ears next wednesday (because of my dizziness), so hopefully at that time my ci surgeon can also determine whether or not i also have fluid behind my eardrum.

I hate that feeling so much! My mom says she catches me making funny noises, because I can "hear" myself in my head. When I am congested and clogged up. I guess I am intrigued with the vibrations. I often wonder if its what CI feels like? hm.

I bet it is just your cold though. Don't try to pop it too much- you don't want to rupture anything. Feel better!!

I get that feeling every time I have congestion. Seems to me like it's pretty normal. If it gets worse though you can always get it checked out.

By the way, is your name Lisa?

I forgot to mention, when I get the feeling of wanting to pop my ear but not being able to, sometimes tilting my head left and right, and also yawning helps. You can also try chewing some gum. That might help ease the pressure in your ear.

thanks! smile.

this isn't caused by my ci's or the way it feels to have implants. in fact, i can't even feel my ci's unless i touch the side of my head and feel a very slight bump. this congestion is strictly due to my cold.
