So my first question was "If you lost your hearing tomorrow what would you miss the most?" When I asked hearing people this question almost all but my mom answered music. When I was first I asked I said I would miss having conversations with people I know and love. I am biased since I'm studying ASL and the culture. I think that we hearing people limit our selves. I also think its selfish to say you'd miss music the most.

Do you think it is selfish that hearing people would miss music? I mean what about communication with other people? That sense of connection?

I would love to know as a Deaf person your perspective, and why. I'm writing an interview paper. Please I need your help.

Thank you, Crystal

Also I thought of something else...

This is a really silly thing, I suppose...

But what do you think you would enjoy the most if you could hear? and why?

I would enjoy being able to eavesdrop on other conversations while out and about cuz I am curious to what do people talk about in general. Maybe I would learn something or two.

To catch the jerks that talk about me behind my back. because i would know who to trust.

hmm well i am late deafened/hoh and i miss whispers, specially this game called telephone..u go around the circle and one person makes up a sentence and it goes around the circle in sectret, and almost 99% of the time the sentence that was like "i like to go to the park and play games with friends" ends up being something like " i like friends and peeing" or something stupid like that...lol i member we played that once in grade 10 to prove a point for a presentation and i couldnt participate:(

buttttt on the other hand, i do not miss: fire drills, loud beeping noises, etc lol

Selfish? No. Probably they say this because they don't think about everything. They don't think about how difficult communication is sometimes - every day I see this - people who think lipreading is easy and understands 100%, think it is ok to let deaf/HoH miss parts of conversation and say "nevermind", don't know how tiring to struggle to understand, don't understand how impossible to understand when several people talk at the same time etc. They "don't get it" so probably they don't think about communication with other people and connection when you ask the question.

I don't think it is selfish to say music the most. My answer is music. I did loss all my hearing over the years and that is what I missed, the Christmas songs, the songs at my daughters dance recitals, the songs to mark the events. Music to me marks the times in my life. When I hear my song from my wedding, I think of that time. My song at my high school prom bring back memories.

Communication still goes on for me even with my hearing loss. I really did not use the phone, so I don't miss it.

Thank you all. I ended up writing a paper on hearing aids, cochlear implants. The views from a Deaf person. The research I did pointed in the direction that the Deaf view these things as wrong, and distroying their culture. Which to me is very interesting. And I would want my child regardless of deaf or hearing to be able to choose what they want. And if it does boil down to hearing or not, I'd suggest Deaf culture, and an attempt at hearing.

I really appreciate all the feedback.
