This thread is about what you might get a family member or someone something for their birthdays this year.

I'll start. My stepmom and Dad's birthday is in 3 weeks, and I know exactly what to get my Dad, no problem. My stepmom, on the other hand, presents more of a challenge. I had considered getting them a new TV, but to be realistic, I think Christmas would be better served for that purpose.

What about you?

A TV? On your limited income? I don't buy anyone expensive gifts because I can't afford it and they know it.

My teenage son is beginning to need to shave. Was thinking of getting him an electric shaver for his birthday this year.

I just tailor gifts to the interests of the birthday person..

If I enlist help from staff, I could easily afford it, because I am NOT great at saving money myself, but I could use assistance to save up for a really nice gift for them-- I want to show them I care.

Trust me you can show them you care with cheaper gifts. Homemade things or anything that comes from your heart counts as it's the thought that counts more than how much the gift is worth. They will be happy with anything you buy, that already shows them that you care without having to budget for it.

You do not need to spend a lot money to show someone you care. You cook a nice meal for your parents or give them tickets to see some movies .

True. I just want them to be happy, and not have to keep meeting my needs for closed captioning on their current TV, which by the way, is complicated. You know those TV's with a remote that has a roller for a cursor? That needs to go.

Cooking a meal is one of the things I want to do someday. Tickets, on the other hand, are another story.

My mom's birthday is coming up a day before Easter. My dog picked something out for her  I need to shop for her soon.

What did the dog want to get for your mom?

My birthday is on April 30. If I behave good, would someone buy me a car with turbocharged engine?

Oh, so it's really for you.

I just had a springtime birthday. Hubby got me spring/summer jammies and daughter got me a coordinating robe.

Mark, what are your parents interested in? What do they enjoy doing?

My daughter just had her 17th birthday a few weeks ago. I took her clothes shopping in Georgetown, DC.

I try to buy gifts that fix the person lifestyle and taste . I had people gives things that they would buy for their self and it was not my taste at all . I end up putting away it and never use it. I think when people get older it's harder to know what to buy them . They pretty much had everything they need . If the parents like to grow flowers that would be a nice gift. A basket filled flower seeds or plants and garden tools ?

That is the ticket is the flowers. I love fresh flowers.

Sometimes, I could not find what I want to buy like for my brother-in-law, even my sister or any of her children. I put about 20 dollars along with the birthday card. They seem to be happy to have money so that they can buy what they want to get from the store. It seem to work out that way. :D

Money is a great gift , it never go out of style and one size fit all. And the color made everyone eyes look great.
