My son is only 5 but can't hear his coach during ice skating or soccer, I believe due to all the background noise at the ice rink, and on the field (wind, cheering, adjacent games, etc). He does great, but has to look around at others to see how to do drills, etc since he can't hear coach.

Does anyone who wore HA have advice on this? Should I get him an FM receiver and a transmitter for his coach? Will that help? PLEASE anyone who is a teenager or adult with sports experience please let me know what would help.

Thanks

\I wouldn't EVER wear HA in soccer games. Soccer practices are another story. With a simple one to one with the coach, they can facilitate your child in most of the drills that happen in soccer practice; shooting, passing, or running. In games all play is too unpredictable IMO to trust expensive HA's to chance. On the sidelines keep them in to have some sort idea what coach is yelling, but make sure there is reliable source to quickly hand them off to when entering game conditions. In a more highly competition level, hearing is uneccesary IMO, due to learned knowledge and skill level of the game. With young ones soccer is mostly a moving pack rat pile with lots of tripping and contact. Hope this helps

I ride horses and I always wear my hearing aids when I am riding. When I take a lesson I wear my FM system, and when my speech discrim was better it helped A LOT. Now it helps me a bit but not as much.

That is just my two cents. You should also get insurance for loss or damage. It can go on your home owners policy if you have one.
