WASHINGTON, DC (WJLA/CNN) - The Secret Service and National Park Service are preparing to install new spikes on the White House fence.

Security officials checked specifications Thursday for the seven-inch steel spikes they are scheduled to begin installing in July.

The addition comes after a series of fence-jumping incidents at the executive mansion.

They include a man who made it inside White House in September before he was tackled.

Some visitors say they understand the concern.

"You want the house to be open to the public in terms of being able to see it, but you want it to be secure," said Paul Carroll, a visitor from Missouri. "So I say the more secure the better."

But those spikes are only a temporary measure.

The long-term plan is to come up with a new fence design that would make it even harder to scale.

:giggle:...One guy said...."Isn't that something. Elected servants scared of the people that they're suppose to represent."

Thats why people fly drones over the white house and the old man flew his mini helcopter to the white house.

What happened then? Did he get away with it?

Not sure if your joking or really want to know what happened? Since I'm one of the few on AD still up at this hour I will answer. This guy that landed his small helicopter on the white house lawn, works for the United States Post Office. Secret Service arrested him and chargers were filed.

Washington (CNN)The U.S. Attorney's office for the District of Columbia will not pursue charges against the man who flew a drone onto the White House grounds in January, according to a government official.

The investigation conducted by the U.S. Secret Service showed that overnight Jan. 25 into Jan. 26, the man was flying a borrowed quadcopter drone around his Washington DC apartment and outside his window, according to the official.

In an interview with authorities, at about 3 a.m. the night of the incident, the man said he watched the drone reach 100 feet high over 10th street NW in DC and then fly West. The man lost control of the drone and was unable to recover. He went to sleep on the Jan. 26 not knowing where the drone was and reported the incident to the U.S. Secret Service after waking up to news reports of the drone going down on White House grounds.

A spokesman at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, which employs the drone flyer, said no action had been taken against him for the incident.

According to the official, a forensic analysis showed that the drone was not under control of its operator when it went down.

The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting a review of the incident.
