Speed trap city accused of corruption, threatened with extinction

Started back in 1976? Hmmm that is when United states start war on drugs, giving cops more power… hmmm This part can be easily overlooked for years and it has proved.

Shame on Tyrannies!

Recall someone telling me about this many years ago when we were driving to Gainesville.....Cops pulling over people for speeding that were not speeding....We were extra careful driving thru there....

Crooks!...Feel sure BabyBlue would know more as she lives around or close to that area...(but haven't seen her post in a long time)....

Jailed mayor of Hampton resigns

City under criminal investigation after critical state audit

HAMPTON, Fla. -
A north Florida mayor who is jailed on drug charges has resigned from office.

The Gainesville Sun reported Hampton Mayor Barry Layne Moore submitted his resignation on Tuesday. He's being held in the Bradford County Jail on allegations of selling oxycodone.

Moore was suspended from office in November. He has not posted $45,000 bail.

Officials say Moore asked city councilman Bill Goodge, who is a sergeant at the jail, to help him with the resignation. Goodge says Moore didn't want to "embarrass" the city any more.

The decision allows the city to move forward with an election. Acting Mayor Myrtice McCullough has been running the city since November.

Moore's arrest came just weeks after he was elected.

The city, known by most only for running a speed trap on a 1-mile stretch of U.S. 301 in Bradford County, has 500 residents.

A state audit of Hampton's books, released last month, found 31 instances in which local rules or state or federal laws were violated. Last week, Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators and the sheriff's office detectives searched Hampton City Hall. The door of the police chief's office was removed from its hinges as investigators combed the tin-roofed building for documents and other evidence.

A bill pending in the current Legislative session would dissolve the city, returning it to an unincorporated area of Bradford County.

With all the negative news being reported about Florida lately it does not sound so sunny down there after all.

Its EVERYWHERE, not just sunshine state down there. Detroit Mich mayor have been caught with corruptions as well, Government Cristie in NJ was caught for closing the bridge so that their fellow politician get to the destination faster and for personal use, and so on. Its EVERYWHERE really

Really , you don't say. I keep hearing how great it's to live in Florida and people made is sound nothing bad happen there. I know people that go there for the winter and it made is sound so crime free.

'Course it is...even in Washington, DC....I'm happy that this has been made "news" and all the culprits and crooks will be prosecuted....and the next time I go to Gainesville or Tallahassee, we won't have to worry about some corrupt cop stopping us and saying we were "speeding thru HIS town"!....bet a lot of those Cops accepted "bribes". And that red-neck Mayor selling drugs....

Yea, still crime is everywhere on this planet no matter what. some small, some so huge that scares you shitless. For me, I have heard serious crimes going on in florida for pretty long time. Like couple years ago, I watch series called "I (Almost) got away with it" Most of the crimes they filed were… you guessed it Florida!

Crime is everywhere...could even be next door to you....

Do you really think you're telling me anything new??? I posted not long ago about a drug bust happening in my city. I was knocking down your state . People always talk about wonderful it's living there because it's so sunny all the time. I am very aware of the huge problem we have with crime in all the states. My state has it too. Boston had about 9 people killed in a couple of months and the number could be higher by now. And now the new mayor of Boston want to allow some bars to stay open to 3AM and the mayor said while running for mayor he want to cut down on the crime rate in Boston. That is insane to me , it's a know fact the some people get very violent when they're load with booze . I expect to see the crime rate go up in Boston if bars are allowed to stay open that late. What do other people think?
