Speech to text for the deaf

Hi all - my dad is very deaf. Is there a software program which turns the words of someone he is speaking to into text eg on a laptop or other device. he is fine speaking back to them if he knew what they were saying.
 
  • I just discovered that there is a dictation option on both the iPhone and Android. Go to Memo (Android) or Notes (iPhone), start a new note, click the microphone (icon on the keyboard) and it will do speech to text. I have used it with my wife. While not perfect (like real-time captions it can't get everything right), it is better than nothing. Probably does not work as well if there are lot of other noises but I haven't tested it while out and about.
