Lately, I have been using the ESPrit 3G, but I have returned to wearing the Spectra. I have had trouble understanding people with my 3G, so I tried on my old Spectra and I was completely shocked by the difference, that the Spectra was working better. I called my audiologist to tell her about the news and she said this was very common. We discussed the Freedom, and well, it looks like I am getting the Freedom once they have resolved the compatibility issue for the Nucleus 22 users Has anyone gone from the 3G or the Spectra to the Freedom? What is the difference? Opinions or comments --- feel free to post!

Great to see another Aussie with a CI here! :) I'm from Sydney. Are you also on the Aussie CI Yahoogroup by any chance?

Good luck with the cochlear for the other ear. I recently went bilateral and really love the extra support it gives me. Have you been wearing a hearing aid in that ear until now?

I can't answer your question but just wanted to wish you all the best with the Freedom. What was it that you didn't like about the 3G? I have noticed on internet groups that while most 3G users who upgrade to the Freedom really like it a few don't. And they all said that it sounded more sensitive and picked up more sounds than they were used to and for that reason it was difficult to get used to it.

Well, out of curiousity, when I tried the Spectra on after feeling unhappy about my 3G, as I was having complications with understanding people, I was sitting at the kitchen table and it was silent. Sound was clear and crisp, and no longer had a buzzing noise in the background. I was able to hear the radio in my bedroom playing at a soft tone, from 30 feet away. I could understand people better when they spoke to me. I didn't have to read their lips anymore. Before I was reading lips AND trying to hear them, but the buzzing/humming/crackling sound was overriding practically everything. Sad thing is, I actually believe that this is the way I got it from CI. Maybe it was a bad 3G and I had not known all along. My mom immediately noticed a huge difference. We did the Ling sound tests at different volumes, with background noise, and no background noise. I got every single sound right, and we tried words and then sentences, with 100% success. I tried the Ling sound tests again, with my 3G... and I got about 20% right, WITH no background noise.

Giddy R2D2,
Im from melbourne but there is deaf people from melbourne who is against CI that things i hate the most. I didn't choose cochlear cos my parent choose me to wear cochlear when i was 5 years old. I don't understand why they turn against CI to destory deaf culture..... I don't believe in destroy the deaf culture cos CI is not turn me into hearing. Im still deaf forever. I wish they hit their head to keep them awaken..... We don't force them to get CI just allow what they want.....
I had a hearing aid back in 2004 but i never like it cos it's really killed my ear. Just wait and see if i can get other cochlear from my left ear by next month...
Cheers,

Just out of curiousity but does the 3G have a telecoil mix and could that have been why you were getting the buzzing etc? I know that if my freedom is in telecoil in my home it buzzes alot, probably because the fact that I have a very old house and it picks up all the noise going through the wires since that's what a Tcoil does pretty much. Just an idea, perhaps the 3 g is programmed wrong or something.
