South Carolina taxpayer server hacked, 3.6 million Social Security numbers compromise

That is why I always warned that there is NO SUCH THING as fool proof security when it comes to computer security. This already proves my point, government generally have better security than the rest of us and their security already breached. Me surprised? Nope, trust me more to come.

I'm doomed. :(

Yup, I know about how you felt and I think you can join the credit protection services, so not know if it is free or not.

I never forgot about Playstation Network (PSN) got hacked and many of accounts were compromised, that pissed me in big time so I had to put my credit report on fraud alert and changed the password for many accounts. Sony offered free identity theft protection for 1 year.

This is the reason why we should NEVER use SS for financial purposes in the first place. If Financial institution come up with unique financial security ID, then it will improve security because bank owned financial security ID can be changed anytime while SSN can not be easily changed.

Which are you more blame to state of SC or Experian for being unprepared to take measurement to protect taxpayer's identify?
Obviously the state should have protected our information better, and they should have warned us about this a lot sooner.

However, since Experian knew what a huge job they were undertaking, they should have increased their personnel and channels to get it done.

Ever filed on SCDOR? Their software looks ridiculously outdated, looks like another case where change doesn't happen until the inevitable occurs.

Since we always owe lots of taxes we file by snail mail in order to send our checks in at last minute.
